Yamaha Likely To Develop FZ25-based Adventure Bike

Yamaha FZ25

Japanese two-wheeler maker, Yamaha has recently introduced 2 all-new 125cc scooters – Fascino 125 and Ray ZR 125 in the country. A new media report claims that the company is considering a small-capacity adventure motorcycle for the Indian market. Yamaha will enter this segment only if sales from its rivals justify it.

KTM, Royal Enfield and Hero MotoCorp currently sell affordable ADVs in our market. Suzuki is also developing an all-new adventure bike based on the Gixxer 250. Yamaha believes that the FZ25 platform could be a good base to start its adventure innings. The Japanese automaker has officially announced to focus in the premium segment, and will launch bikes above 150cc and scooters above 125cc category.

Suspension set up comprises 41mm telescopic forks at front and monoshock absorbers at rear. Stopping power on the naked streetfighter comes from the 280mm units in front and 220mm rear disc brakes.

The Yamaha FZ25 platform is new and is relevant for an ADV. Adding to it, the 250cc engine offers good low and mid-range performance. The low-cost platform and simple construction of engine will help the Japanese brand to achieve aggressive pricing for the adventure bike. The FZ25 weighs just 148kh, and has a seat height of less than 800mm. The main frame of the motorcycle will remain unchanged and engineers can make changes to the steering head to rework the geometry with longer travel suspension.

The Yamaha FZ25 is powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve, SOHC motor, which also powers the Fazer 25. This engine is capable of producing 20.9PS of power at 8,000rpm and 20Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. The company will soon upgrade this engine to meet the upcoming BSVI emission norms.
