Based on YZF-R15, the Yamaha M Slaz aka MT-15 is powered by a 149cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

Rumour has it that the Yamaha MT-15 (M-SLAZ) street fighter could come to India. The bike is already on sale in the Thailand market, and is priced at THB 89,500 (Rs 1.66 lakh). The world debut of the bike took place at the 32nd Thailand International Motor Show 2015. Though there is no official word on its arrival, it should not be a problem for the Japanese two wheeler maker since it’s based on YFZ-R15 that is already on sale in the country.

The new MT-15 Street fighter is based on Yamaha’s Delta Frame chassis that also underpins the Yamaha R15. The bike comes equipped with a new LED headlamp, new LED tail lamp, new turn indicators and switchgear clusters. It features dynamic decals and sharp styling along with bright colours to target young audience. The overall styling of the bike seems inspired with bigger Yamaha naked motorcycles like MT-25, MT-03 and the MT-07. The rear profile and the swing arm are shared with the Yamaha R15.

The Yamaha MT-15 comes equipped with an all-digital instrument console with backlit blue lighting. The engine of the bike is mounted on the deltabox frame with a fork rake angle of 26 degrees that leaves a caster trail of 88mm and a wheelbase of 1,350mm. Dimensionally, the bike measures 1,955mm in length, 795mm in width, 1,065mm in height, and has a seat height of 805mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 164mm, which is more than sufficient for city and highway rides. The fuel tank capacity stands at 10.2 litres, while the oil tank capacity is 1 litre and the coolant tank capacity is 0.52 litres.

The bike rides on 17-inch with 110/70-17 M/C 54s front and 130/70-17 M/C 62s rear tyres, respectively. The bike gets all disc brakes; however, it misses out on ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System).

Powering the Yamaha MT-15 is a 149cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that also powers the R15. This engine is capable of producing 17PS of power at 8,500rpm and 15Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. Power will be transmitted to roads via a six-speed gearbox.

Likely to make its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016, the Yamaha M-Slaz could go on sale in the country by mid-2016. It will be slotted between the Fazer and the R15.

We expect the India-spec model to cost somewhere between Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Though much clarity on this will only come after the company announces it to finally bring it here.
