Yamaha MT-03
The long-awaited Yamaha MT-03 naked streetfighter is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018. It is essentially the Yamaha R3 sans fairing. This model will be launched as a more powerful alternative to the FZ25. The motorcycle will be brought to India via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route from the company’s Indonesian facility, and then assembled locally. Upon launch, the naked MT-03 will take on the likes of Kawasaki Z250, KTM Duke 390 and the upcoming BMW G310R.
It is powered by the same 321cc, parallel twin engine that also powers the R3. This motorcycle is likely to be unveiled alongside new R3 and other Yamaha Bikes at Auto Expo 2018. It is powered by the same 321cc in-line twin-cylinder engine that is good for 41.4bhp and 29.6Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.
In terms of styling, the new MT-03 looks largely identical to the MT-25. The motorcycle borrows components and design elements from the R3, but the naked stance and fuel tank pods differentiate it from the MT-25. It is built on a compact and lightweight diamond steel chassis that is derived from the YZF-R3. Some of the design highlights include single headlamp, air-intake on pods on the fuel tank sides, digital analogue instrument console, clip-on handle bar, etc.
