VW Tiguan 5-Seat to be Locally Assembled; Price Around 23-26 Lakh

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift teased (1)

Volkswagen plans to locally assemble the 5-seater Tiguan facelift at the VW Group’s Chakan plant near Pune.

Volkswagen has recently discontinued the 5-seater Tiguan SUV from the Indian market. The company has launched the 7-seat Tiguan Allspace 2.0 TSI in India. A new media report claims that the 5-seater Volkswagen Tiguan will make a comeback in India. The previous model was available with a single 2.0L TDI diesel engine; however, VW Group has decided to phase out diesel models in BSVI era.

The report claims that Volkswagen is planning to launch the smaller Tiguan 5-seater by the end of this year. However, the launch has been delayed due to ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The re-launched 5-seat Volkswagen Tiguan will be the facelifted model, which is scheduled to be launched in the global markets in the near future. What’s more interesting is that Volkswagen plans to locally assemble the new Tiguan SUV to save import duties.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace features

The facelifted 5-seater VW Tiguan is expected to be assembled at VW Group’s Chakan plant near Pune. The new model will be offered as a front-wheel drive only. The report claims that the new Tiguan could be priced somewhere around Rs 23 lakh – Rs 26 lakh. To achieve competitive pricing, VW will also remove the diesel and 4WD version of the SUV.

At this pricing, the Volkswagen Tiguan will rival the Honda CR-V and the upcoming Skoda Karoq and the Citroen C5 Aircross. The facelifted model will receive significant design changes and will look different from the 7-seater Allspace. The SUV will get new front end with grille and headlamp design shared with the new VW Golf 8. The company has teased the Tiguan facelift, which shows that the LED units in the headlamps give a 3D effect. The SUV will have sculpted bonnet with sharp creases and new bumper that has wider air-dam.

The Volkswagen Tiguan will be powered by a 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that is capable of producing 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The same engine gearbox combination will also power the Skoda Karoq. The SUV will come with paddle-shifters, hill descent control and an electronic parking brake. Not just regular petrol engine, Volkswagen is also planning to introduce the petrol Tiguan with 48V hybrid system. This variant will join the line-up at a later stage. Inside the cabin, the SUV is likely to receive new, larger touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument console and new connected car technology.
