Since Volkswagen is planning to locally develop its MQB platform, it is possible that this stylish T-ROC SUV could also make its way to Indian market.

Volkswagen, the German premium carmaker has unveiled the new T-ROC SUV in Italy. Scheduled to make its public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the SUV will first go on sale in UK in December. Since Volkswagen is planning to locally develop its MQB modular platform, it is possible that this stylish SUV could also make its way to Indian market. It is expected that Volkswagen will manufacture this modular platform at the Chakan based production facility. If this happen, the German carmaker could bring in several future cars in India. The company has recently unveiled the new generation Polo hatchback, which is also based on the MQB-A0 platform. Adding to it, the other upcoming cars on this platform includes new Virtus, T-Cross Breeze compact SUV and the Taigun sub-4 meter SUV.

If media reports are to be believed, Volkswagen could announce this SUV for Indian market early next year. The launch could take place in early 2019. This compact SUV will rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass and the upcoming Toyota CHR and Honda HRV. The SUV is 4,234mm, 1,819mm and 1,573mm in length, width and height, respectively. The overall styling of the SUV looks largely identical to the concept, which was unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The SUV gets a simple VW grille, thin headlamps and LED headlamps and cornering lights, trapezoidal-shaped air-intakes and silver coloured skid plate. The flared wheel arches have been fitted to large 17-inch alloy wheels. The SUV comes with a boot of 445-litres, which can be increased to 1,290-litres by folding the rear seats. The cabin of the SUV features 11.3-inch active info display digital instrument pack and an all-new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. Adding to it, the SUV gets an inductive smartphone charge plate and a 300-watt, eight-channel Bose sound system. It is available with a choice of three petrol and two diesel engines, and a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
