VW and Skoda Merge to form Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.

Volkswagen T-Cross India Launch

Volkswagen Group companies in India including Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (VWIPL), Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. (NSC) and Skoda Auto Pvt. Ltd. (SAIPL) have merged to form a single entity to operate in the country. The new merger is called Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (SAVWIPL).

Based in Pune, the new SAVWIPL will be headed by Mr. Gurpratap Boparai. The new brand will be the part of the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 project. It will combine the technical and managerial expertise of the three Volkswagen Group companies. Adding to it, the new SAVWIPL will aim to increase efficiency. The new company won’t impact the individual identities of the Skoda, VW, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini, as all the brands will retain their dealer network. The company will be headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, and operate two manufacturing facilities in Pune and Aurangabad. The company will have regional offices in Mumbai, New Delhi and other locations across the country.

Skoda Kamiq 2020 Auto Expo

As a part of India Project 2.0, Skoda will lead the development of the local MQB AO IN platform. The platform will be used to develop a range of new cars to be sold under Volkswagen and Skoda. While VW will introduce the India-spec T-Cross, next-gen Vento and the next-gen Polo, Skoda will launch the locally developed Kamiq and the next-gen Rapid sedan. The next-gen Volkswagen T-Cross and the Skoda Kamiq will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020.
