The Polo’s new 7-inch touchscreen supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Mirror Link.

Volkswagen has introduced a 7-inch touchscreen on its highly popular hatchback – Polo. Earlier, the car was available with a 5-inch touchscreen unit. Besides this, the German carmaker has made a few changes to the Highline Polo trim.

The Polo’s new 7-inch touchscreen is compatible to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Mirror Link connectivity. The hatchback genuinely need this update, since its rivals  Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 already have a 7-inch display unit. Now, the Volkswagen Polo Highline trim is available with some additional features. Apart the bigger touchscreen, the car gets an all-black treatment on the dashboard similar to the lower trims. Interestingly, the automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers are now available only on the Highline Plus trim. That means, you will get these two features only on the top-spec trim of the carline. The updated VW Polo is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The hatchback’s 1.2-litre MPI petrol unit delivers 74bhp at 5,400rpm and 110Nm at 3,750rpm, the 1.5-litre TDI diesel motor churns out 88.7bhp at 4,200rpm and 230Nm at 1,500-2,500rpm. Both engines are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Price the updated Volkswagen Polo Highline remains unchanged. While the petrol variant of the car comes with a price tag of Rs 7.24 lakh, the diesel model costs 8.55 lakh (ex-showroom). If a media report to be believed, the company dispatched the updated models of the hatchback to dealerships early this month.

Volkswagen’s Polo hatchback is all set for a generation change. In fact, the company has commenced production of the car at its Navarra plant in Spain. The new Polo will make its way to India sometime next year. Currently, the German carmaker is gearing to launch the new Passat in the country. Besides this, the company will also introduce the Vitrus as replacement to the Vento sedan.
