VW Polo facelift coming this July; updated GT TSI also on cards

New Volkswagen Polo facelift

We reported earlier that Volkswagen will launch the facelifted version of its flagship hatchback, Polo in July, 2014. Interestingly, Volkswagen will also launch the Polo GT TSI with the new look.  The updated hatchback looks quite similar to the current model; however, it gets some subtle changes which make it look fresh in the market.

The Volkswagen Polo facelift gets redesigned fascia which includes redesigned bonnet and chrome embellishments that flow across the grille and bottom of the fog lamps. Its redone bumper looks more aggressive, while the tail lights and alloy wheels are new. The headlamps of the new Polo get LED treatment, which is the most visible update given to the car. Inside, the vehicle has restyled dashboard, redone instrument panel with a colour display and a new infotainment system.

The updated Polo GT TSI is expected to get similar upgrades along with some added features. We believe that the company has worked on the rear passenger space. Under the hood, the facelifted Polo will get a new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that is expected to develop 105PS and 250Nm of torque. This engine will be coupled to a DSG automatic gearbox. The new 1.5-litre diesel engine will help the company to enjoy the excise benefits applicable on sub-4 metre cars with 1.5L engines. Media reports suggest that Volkswagen might ditch the 1.2L oil burner; however, we expect that the company will bring the new 1.5L engine to replace the 1.6L diesel engine.

The Volkswagen Polo GT TSI will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 103bhp and 175Nm of top torque. The new 1.5-litre engine will also power the Volkswagen Vento, which is expected to hit the Indian market by the festive season.
