Volvo C40 Recharge Electric SUV Coupe India Launch Confirmed For 2023

At the launch of the new Volvo XC40 Recharge, the Swedish carmaker has confirmed that its next electric vehicle for the Indian market will be the C40 Recharge. Based on the XC40 Recharge, the new electric SUV Coupe will be launched in India in 2023. In the international markets, the Volvo C40 Recharge is available only with an electric powertrain.

To be introduced as a CKD model, the new C40 Recharge is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 60 lakh and Rs 70 lakh. At this price point, the electric SUV will rival the likes of the Mini Cooper SE, BMW i4, Kia EV6 and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The front fascia of the C40 Recharge looks largely identical to the XC40 Recharge. The sloping roofline gives it a coupe-like profile. At the back, the new Volvo C40 Recharge comes with an all-new design with a completely different tail-lamps, a twin-pod roof spoiler and a new tailgate design.

The electric coupe SUV’s cabin share similarities with the XC40. However, the C40 is the brand’s first global model that doesn’t offer a leather interior. Volvo has already announced to completely remove leather interior from its entire line-up. This will help in reducing animal harm and carbon emissions.  It comes equipped with a Google Android OS-powered infotainment system with built-in apps and services, a digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and wireless phone charging. The electric Coupe SUV also offers Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), ISOFIX child seat anchorages and seven airbags.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is offered in 3 trim levels – Core, Plus and Ultimate. The Core variant comes equipped with a single electric motor that produces 231bhp and 330Nm of torque that is transmitted to the front wheels.

The higher variants are offered with a dual-motor set-up – one on each axle. It produces 408bhp of power and 660Nm of torque. The single-motor version comes with a 67kWh battery pack and offers a maximum range of 430km on the WLTP cycle. The dual-motor version comes with a 75kWh battery pack and is claimed to offer a range of 433km. The vehicle supports up to 150kW of fast charging, which charges battery from 0 to 80 per cent in 40 minutes.
