Volkswagen To Launch Honda WR-V Rival – Report

Volkswagen crossover imagined

Volkswagen’s new crossover will be based on VW Group’s MQB A0 platform and is expected to come as a replacement for the Cross Polo

German premium carmaker, Volkswagen is betting big on SUVs to improve its sales in international markets. The company is working on a range of new SUVs including T-Cross, T-Track and Atlas 5-seater SUV. If reports are to be believed, Volkswagen is working on an all-new crossover to rival the Honda WR-V. This model is expected to be based on the new-generation Polo, which is already on sale in select international markets. VW is yet to launch the next-gen Cross Polo, which suggests that the new crossover could be its replacement.

The company officials have recently announced that they will not introduce a new product under 4 meter in length, which means that the crossover could be the heavily modified & jagged-up Polo. Volkswagen India officials have also said that they are not considering a sub-4 meter compact SUV for Indian market. This suggests that the next-gen Cross Polo could serve as brand’s cross-hatch in the sub-compact space. VW will introduce a 5-seater SUV based on the heavily-localised MQB AO IN platform. This model is expected to be based on T-Cross, which is scheduled to make its global debut in the second half of this year.

Volkswagen will also launch the next-gen Polo in India by 2020. This model will also be based on MQB AO IN platform and will sit under 4 meter in length. It is expected that the cross-hatch could also use this platform to achieve aggressive price tag. The cross version is likely to carry a raised ground clearance, rugged exterior profile, crossover-ish elements like body cladding, aggressive bumper, roof-rails, rear spoiler, etc. This crossover will share mechanics with the next-gen Polo hatchback.

Besides this compact crossover, VW will launch the T-Cross compact SUV in international as well as Indian market. This model will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks. VW will launch this compact SUV in India by 2020. Interestingly, VW will also introduce an all-new SUV, named the Tarek, in the international markets. This SUV will rival the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson. For people not in the known, VW is already selling the T-ROC SUV in the European markets which rivals the Hyundai Tucson and five-seater Honda CRV.
