Volkswagen Tiguan 5-Seater & New Sedan Confirmed For India

Volkswagen will launch the Taigun mid-sized SUV in the mid-2021. The company will officially reveal the pictures and details of the new SUV on March 31, 2021. Adding to it, Volkswagen has announced to launch two more products before the end of next financial year.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the Tiguan 5-seater SUV will be re-introduced in the Indian market this year. The SUV will join the brand’s SUV line-up, which will comprise of the Taigun, the T-ROC and the Tiguan AllSpace. The new model will be locally assembled and is expected to be priced around Rs 26 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. It will rival the Citroen C5 Aircross, Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass.

The Tiguan facelift comes with cosmetic design changes such as new twin-pod LED headlamps with twin L-shaped LED DRLs, revised bumper with chrome inserts, new tail-lamps and updated grille. The SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 187bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG.

Volkswagen is also developing a new mid-sized sedan, which will replace the ageing Vento sedan. The new model will be based on the MQB AO IN platform, which underpins the Skoda Kushaq and the VW Taigun. The new model is likely to share the styling cues from the Virtus sedan on sale in the international markets. The sedan has already been caught testing in India.

It will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 108bhp and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The sedan could also get a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which will also power the Taigun. Paired to a 7-speed DSG, this engine produces 147bhp and 250Nm of torque.
