Volkswagen Taigun (Seltos, Creta Rival) Launch Timeline Revealed

Volkswagen has officially announced to launch 4 new SUVs in the Indian market in the next 2 years. The company will introduce the new T-ROC mid-sized SUV and the Tiguan AllSpace in the next couple of months. Adding to it, Volkswagen will also launch the upgraded version of the Polo hatchback. The long-awaited Volkswagen Taigun mid-sized SUV will be launched in our market in the second half of 2021.

The Taigun SUV will be launched after the Skoda Vision IN Concept based SUV. The Vision IN SUV will be launched in the first half of 2021. The Volkswagen Taigun will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks. The Volkswagen Taigun rides on 2,651mm of wheelbase, which is around 90-100mm longer than the European T-Cross model. It measures 4,225mm in length, which is around 235mm longer than the T-Cross SUV sold abroad. The SUV has a ground clearance of 205mm, which is more than sufficient for the Indian road conditions.

The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be offered with 2 petrol engine options – a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder and a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged. While the former is good for 130bhp of power, the 1.0L unit produces 115bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. While the 1.5L unit will be paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, the 1.0L unit will be coupled to a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard.
