Volkswagen Taigun Front Revealed In New Picture; Looks Sporty

German automaker, Volkswagen has released a new teaser image of the upcoming Taigun mid-sized SUV on its official website and on social media platforms. The new teaser reveals the front end of the production-ready VW Taigun. For people not in the know, the Volkswagen Taigun is specifically designed and developed for the Indian market.

The new Volkswagen Taigun is based on the MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin Volkswagen Group’s future products including Skoda Vision IN based mid-sized SUV and the new Vento in India. The mid-sized SUV shares lots of design elements from the global T-Cross and the T-ROC, but it is longer, wider and taller than the T-Cross. It will ride on longer wheelbase and will measure around 4.3 meters in length, which will help VW to create more space inside the cabin.

In terms of styling, the Volkswagen Taigun gets an upright front section with chrome highlight on front grille. There is a chrome bar above the lower air-dam, which runs across the width and surrounds the fog lamp enclosure. The grille and lower air-intakes are designed in honeycomb pattern. There is a huge silver skid plate placed lower on the bumper. It gets LED headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), sculpted bonnet and black plastic cladding. Also visible are the masculine wheel arches, multi-spoke alloy wheels, roof rails and dual-tone ORVMs.

The new VW Taigun will come equipped with single-bar LED brake lamp at the rear, roof-integrated spoiler, faux diffusers and dual-tone bumper. The upcoming Taigun will offer feature-loaded cabin, which will be finished in dual-tone colour scheme with contrasting treatment. The SUV will get an all-digital instrument console, a large touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity options, connected car features, wireless charging, automatic AC, etc.

Volkswagen Taigun Details

The Volkswagen Taigun will directly rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. It will be offered with 2 engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre TSI EVO. The 1.0-litre engine is expected to produce around 110bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The 1.5L TSI EVO engine is capable of producing 147bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic. This powertrain also has cylinder deactivation technology, which allows the motor to deactivate up to 2 cylinders by sensing the load on the engine. This will help to achieve higher fuel efficiency.
