Volkswagen Taigun Coming Soon To Challenge Seltos, Creta

Volkswagen India has listed the upcoming Taigun SUV on its official website ahead of its launch early next year. Touted as “bold, sporty and energetic” SUV, the VW Taigun will go up against the cars like Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Duster. It will be one of the first products to be based on Volkswagen’s India-specific MQB A0 IN platform that will also underpin a range of new models. The same architecture will be used for the upcoming Skoda Vision IN concept based mid-size SUV.

The Volkswagen Taigun was first previewed in its concept form just ahead the 2020 Auto Expo. Some of its design bits are similar to the global-spec VW T-Cross SUV. Though, the Indian model will be longer with 2651mm of wheelbase and 205mm of ground clearance.

A few styling bits have been tweaked including a more angular bonnet, lots of chrome treatment on grille and bumpers. Unlike the concept that has flashy rims, the production version will come with smaller wheels. At the back, the LED taillamps are connected via an LED light bar. Inside, the upcoming Volkswagen compact SUV has a multi-layer dashboard with an integrated 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. Feature details of the Taigun are yet to be revealed by the carmaker. Though. It’s likely to come with a bunch of comfort goodies and safety features.

Volkswagen Taigun Specs

The production-ready Volkswagen Taigun will come with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine featuring cylinder-deactivation technology. The gasoline motor will produce power close to 130bhp. The compact SUV will be offered with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The company is looking at the CNG bi-fuel option as well. There will be no diesel engine option.
