Volkswagen Taigun Bookings & Production Start; Deliveries Begin In Sep

Volkswagen India today rolled out the first production unit of the upcoming new Taigun mid-size SUV from its Chakan based plant in Pune. The company also started accepting bookings for the vehicle across Volkswagen online and offline retail platforms. Deliveries, however, will begin in September 2021. It will be the first product from Volkswagen under its India 2.0 project. The company says that the Volkswagen Taigun will “retain the brand’s DNA of superior build quality, safety and a fun-to-drive experience”.

The new VW mid-size SUV will be made available with the brand’s globally popular TSI technology offered with two turbocharged engines – 1.0L, 3-cylinder and 1.5L, four-cylinder. While the former will develop a peak power of 113bhp with 175Nm of torque, the latter will make 148bhp with 250Nm. The 1.0L TSI unit will come with the 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options, the 1.5L TSI will be exclusively offered with a 7-speed DSG transmission.

Based on the MQB AO IN platform, the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun shares several design elements with the Skoda Kushaq. Though, it looks different from its cousin. Unlike the Kushaq, the VW SUV features slatted grille along with square-ish LED headlamps and a more upright bonnet. The lots of chrome treatment further marks distinction to its portfolio. It has differently designed 17-inch, dual-tone, diamond cut alloy wheels and connected LED taillamps.

The overall length, width and height of the SUV stand at 4221mm, 1760mm and 1612mm respectively. Similar to the Kushaq, the VW Taigun has the segment’s longest wheelbase of 2651mm. Some of its key features include a new flat bottom steering wheel, dashboard (grey in colour) integrated touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 6-spealer audio system with subwoofer, touch-based climate control , a single-pane sunroof, cruise control, paking sensors with a camera, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system and more.
