Volkswagen T-Cross SUV To Be Designed For Indian Buyers

Volkswagen T-Cross India Launch

Volkswagen Group had confirmed 4 new launches for the Indian market. The new models will be part of the company’s ‘India 2.0’ strategy, and the first one to hit roads will be the Volkswagen T-Cross. The compact SUV from the German carmaker might make its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. Here, it will gun up straight against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur.

Klaus Bischoff, head of Volkswagen design, revealed that the Volkswagen T-Cross will be designed to meet requirements of the Indian buyers. Though, it will retain Volkswagen’s family look.  The India-spec T-Cross might get some additional chrome treatment to appeal a wider section of buyers.

The new compact SUV from the German automaker will be built on MQB A0 IN platform that has been designed especially for the emerging markets. The company aims to ramp up localisation for its upcoming compact SUV up to 95% and achieve competitive pricing.

Compared to its European version, the India-spec Volkswagen T-Cross will sit on a longer wheelbase and offer more cabin space. The SUV could be offered with two petrol powertrains – a 1.5L, 4-cylinder EVO TSI and a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged.
