India-Spec Volkswagen T-Cross Leaked Online

Volkswagen T-Cross Leaked

The Volkswagen T-Cross SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Jeep Renegade in global markets.

We informed you earlier that Volkswagen will introduce the production-spec T-Cross compact SUV in the second half of this year. Ahead of its official launch, the production-ready VW T-Cross has been leaked online revealing the exterior design. The SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Jeep Renegade in global markets. The SUV will first go on sale in the European markets by the end of 2018.

The overall design of the SUV remains true to the concept, though it gets fixed roof and more rugged profile. The SUV shares some of its styling cues from the T-ROC, but it features larger and wider grille, squared fog lamps, diamond cut alloy wheels and flatter roof. The SUV is based on VW Group’s MQB AO platform that also underpins the new-generation Polo hatchback. Read – VW T-Cross – New Details Emerge

The T-Cross crossover will share most of its features from the new generation Polo hatchback. It will also get Active Info Digital Display Cockpit and several customisation options for both the exterior and cabin. The company is also aiming to offer more space for rear occupants. However, it won’t have huge cargo capacity. The SUV will also get new-generation touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. It will be positioned below the T-ROC in Volkswagen’s global SUV line-up.

Previous media reports claim that the new T-Cross will come with a range of 3- and 4-cylinder engines with manual and dual-clutch transmissions. It will also be offered with two drive-train options – front and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Like the new Polo, the T-Cross could also get a full-fledged GT version with the 2.0-litre TSI petrol developing 200bhp of power. Read – Upcoming Volkswagen Cars In India

Volkswagen is also considering the T-Cross SUV for the Indian market. However, the India-spec model will be based on heavily localised MQB AO IN platform. This platform will be developed by Skoda India and will spawn a range of future Skoda and Volkswagen cars in India.
