Volkswagen and Skoda to Unveil Future Cars at Auto Expo 2020

Volkswagen and Skoda recently merged to form a single entity, called Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (SAVWIPL). However, both the automakers will retain their dealership network. Skoda is leading the Volkswagen Group’s India Plan 2.0, which includes local development of products, platforms, engines and technology. Volkswagen and Skoda will mark their re-entry at the Asia’s biggest Auto event – Indian Auto Expo 2020.

Both the brands will showcase their future cars at the Auto Expo 2020. The show-stopper for the German brand will be the made-in-India Volkswagen T-Cross compact SUV, which will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks. Adding to it, VW could showcase the made-in-India Virtus mid-sized sedan which will replace the ageing Vento. Both the models will be based on the localised MQB AO IN platform. Apart from these 2 cars, Volkswagen could showcase some of its global cars – T-ROC and Tiguan 7-seater. These cars are also likely to arrive in our market.

Skoda Kamiq 2020 Auto Expo

Skoda on the other hand, will showcase the locally developed Kamiq compact SUV. This SUV is scheduled to be launched in our market in early 2021. It will be based on the MQB AO IN platform and will take on the likes of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. The company is also likely to showcase the Karoq, Kodiaq facelift and the next-generation Skoda Superb at the Auto Expo 2020.

Volkswagen and Skoda compact SUVs will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, which is expected to produce over 120bhp of power. The T-Cross could also utilise the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is likely to produce over 110bhp of power. VW Group also considering CNG powered models.
