Available in both petrol and diesel guise, the Volkswagen Ameo sedan is priced in the range of Rs 5.50 lakh to Rs 9.89 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

Volkswagen had launched the Ameo sub-4 metre sedan in the Indian market in October, 2016. After initial success, the compact sedan’s sales saw a constant dip. In a bid to improve its sales, Volkswagen will launch a new top-of-the-line Ameo Highline Plus trim. The sedan is currently available in three levels – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline – and in total of six variants. The Volkswagen Ameo is priced in the range of Rs 5.50 lakh to Rs 9.89 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

The new Highline Plus trim will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the petrol version is likely to be priced around Rs 7.35 lakh – Rs 7.45 lakh, the diesel model could cost around Rs 8.60 lakh. Talking about engine specs, the Ameo compact sedan is available with two engine options – a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol and a 1.5-litre TDI diesel. While the former is good for 74bhp and 110Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 108bhp and 250Nm of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox driving the power to front wheels come as standard, and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox is exclusively available with Highline Diesel variant.

The VW Ameo sub-compact sedan is available in three trims – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline – in petrol and diesel guise. The petrol version is priced at Rs 5.50 lakh for the base model, which goes up to Rs 7.35 lakh for the range-topping variant. On the other hand, the diesel version is priced between Rs 7.35 lakh and Rs 9.89 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. VW Ameo Higline Plus Launch Date

The company is yet to announce the exact launch date of the new Highline plus trim, but we expect it to go on sale in August 2017. We will update you as soon as VW announces anything on its launch.

Besides sharing the platform and features, the Ameo compact sedan also shares its engine from its hatchback sibling. The Volkswagen Ameo is available with two engine options a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder MPI petrol and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TDI diesel. The petrol mill is capable of producing a maximum power of 74bhp at 5,400rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 3,750rpm. Transmission on offer is a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the flip side, the oil burner is good for 108bhp of power at 3,750rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1,500-3,000rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG gearbox options.

For braking, the sedan gets front disc and rear drum brakes that are further assisted by ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution) and brake assist. Suspension mechanism of the car comprises of McPherson strut with stabilizer bar and Semi-independent trailing arm at the front and rear respectively.

Based on the Polo platform, the Ameo sits under 4 meter in length. It measures 3,995mm in length, 1,682mm in width and 1,483mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,470mm. The compact sedan has a ground clearance of 165mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian city roads. The vehicle offers a boot space of 330-litres, which is good enough to accommodate 3 suitcases.

Volkswagen Ameo Exterior 

Designed for the Indian market, the Volkswagen Ameo takes its inspiration from the Polo hatchback. While the front fascia of the car features a long grille and large headlights, the rear design looks conventional with L-shaped taillight enclosures and slightly extended boot. Based on the Polo’s PQ25 platform, the Ameo looks identical to the hatchback right until the B-pillar.

Though, it’s the tail and angular boot sections that mark a difference to its portfolio. Other design elements include body-colored bumpers, chrome applique on door handles, static cornering lights, 15-inch ‘TOSA’ alloy wheels and lots of chrome detailing. Similar to the Polo hatch, the Ameo has a ground clearance of 165mm.
