Volkswagen Polo Compact Sedan Might Launch at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo

Volkswagen Polo Compact Sedan India Render

Volkswagen has some really big plans for the Indian market, as the automaker has increased investment here and decided to enhance the localisation level in its line-up. Moreover, the company is planning to launch at least five new cars – Polo-based sub-compact sedan, new-gen Passat, Tiguan, Taigun compact SUV and new Beetle.

The Polo-based compact sedan is one of the most anticipated cars from the automaker, which is expected to unveil at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The sub-4 meter sedan, reportedly to be called Bora, will share the platform, engine and equipment with the Polo hatchback.

Design & Styling
Based on the Polo hatchback platform, the new compact sedan will share resemblance with its hatchback sibling. The interior design and equipment, too, are likely to be similar to the Polo.

Engine Specs and Transmission
Volkswagen India’s compact sedan will share its engines with the Polo hatchback. Powering the car will be a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol, a 1.2-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TDI diesel. While the 1.2-litre TSI engine is paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission, the 1.5-litre TDI diesel motor gets a 5-speed manual transmission.

Mileage
Sharing the engine lineup with the Polo, the compact sedan will return fuel economy similar to its hatchback sibling. The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol and a 1.2-litre TSI powered variant are expected to deliver a maximum mileage of 16kmpl and 17kmpl respectively, while the 1.5-litre TDI diesel model will offer around 20.14kmpl.

Price in India
Since the new Polo compact sedan will rival against the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest, Honda Amaze and Ford’s upcoming Figo Aspire, expect it to be priced quite aggressively. We estimate it to be offered within the price range of Rs. 5 lakh – Rs. 7.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Expected launch
The Volkswagen’s sub-4 meter sedan is expected to make its first appearance at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, and the launch might take place at the event itself or soon after that.
