Volkswagen T-ROC compact SUV

Volkswagen is still undecided on its upcoming compact SUV to hit developing nations including India and Brazil. VW currently has two SUV in its portfolio- the Touareg and Tiguan, and is reportedly planning to launch one SUV in each segment. The German automaker is aiming at the B-Segment SUV space, which currently features cars including Renault Captur, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Juke, Honda HR-V/Vezel, Hyundai ix25, etc.

Speaking to Autoexpress.co.uk, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neuser, board member for technical development at Volkswagen said that the company is working on smaller SUVs based on the VW Golf and Polo hatchbacks. Here is a speculative rendering of a Polo-based SUV, while design inspired from the T-ROC concept. At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, VW showcased the T-ROC concept. The company stated that the concept is a Golf-sized SUV, which is based on the capable MQB platform. However, the production model will be a five-seat model and offers more subtle looks.

At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, VW also presented the Taigun mini SUV concept which is based on the Up! platform. However, reports suggest that the next generation Polo hatchback will spawn new compact SUVs from VW, Skoda and Seat.
