Volkswagen Nivus SUV Coupe gets a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The much-awaited Volkswagen Nivus crossover with coupe design has officially been revealed by the German automaker. The new model will first go on sale in Brazil in the end of June, which will be followed by Argentina by the end of this year. The Coupe SUV will also go on sale in the European markets in 2021.

Volkswagen Nivus Features

The new Volkswagen Nivus will sit alongside the T-Cross in the Brazilian markets; however, it will target urban and young buyers looking for a different-looking product. The new model is built on the VW Group’s MQB AO platform, which is basically the low-cost version of the versatile MQB architecture. The new Polo, Virtus and T-Cross sold abroad is also based on the same platform. In fact, Volkswagen Group will also launch this platform as MQB AO IN in our market with Skoda Vision IN based SUV and the Volkswagen Taigun in 2021.

The Volkswagen Nivus shares 2.56 meters of wheelbase with the Polo, but it measures 4.26 meters that is around 60mm longer than the T-Cross. The VW T-Cross is 4.19 meters long and has a longer 2.65 meters of wheelbase. The Nivus has an elongated rear overhang measuring 856mm as against 732mm of the T-Cross. This allows VW to free more space in the cabin. It offers a boot space of 415-litres, which is against 42-litres more than the T-Cross (373-litres).

Volkswagen Nivus Interior

The company hasn’t revealed about the prices and other details of the Nivus, but media reports claim that the upcoming VW Nivus will be offered in 3 variants – 200 TSI, Comfortline and Higline. Under the hood is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 128bhp and 200Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The VW T-Cross is also available with a 150bhp, 1.4-litre TSI engine, which is not available in the Nivus.

For passengers’ safety and security, the Volkswagen Nivus gets six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control and automatic emergency braking. Adding to it, the Coupe SUV also gets adaptive cruise control – a feature normally available in high-end and expensive cars.
