We reported earlier that Volkswagen is planning to launch a wide range of SUVs in the Indian market. This year, the German brand will introduce the T-ROC mid-sized SUV and the Tiguan AllSpace 7-seater SUV. The company will also showcase the Vision IN concept at Auto Expo 2020. This SUV concept will previews the brand’s upcoming compact SUV for the Indian market. The production version of the SUV will go on sale in the first half of 2021.
A new media report suggests that the German automaker could also introduce a sub-4 meter SUV in India. This SUV will directly rival the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300. Renault, Kia Motors and Honda also plan to enter in the subcompact SUV segment.
Volkswagen is all set to introduce an all-new Nivus subcompact coupe crossover in the Brazilian market. The new model will be based on the brand’s new MQB AO platform, which also underpins the new Polo, Virtus mid-sized sedan and the T-Cross. Skoda is currently readying the heavily localised modular platform, called the MQB AO IN, for the Indian market.
The new platform will be used to develop a wide range of VW and Skoda products for the Indian market. The subcompact SUV from Volkswagen in India will also use this platform. Details about the product are yet to be revealed. It is likely to receive a 1.0-litre MPi/TSI petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual or DSG automatic. The SUV is expected to arrive in our market by the end of 2021 or 2022.
