With this new lineup, the German carmaker aims to approach a larger audience across different segments in the country.

Volkswagen India has announced its product line-up for the year 2017. The plan outlines the launch of three new models – Tiguan SUV and new-generation Passat and GTI hot hatch.  Out of which, the VW Polo GTI has already been launched in the Indian market. With this new lineup, the German carmaker aims to approach a larger audience across different segments in the country. Previous year, the company had introduced the Ameo sub-compact sedan in both petrol and diesel fuel options.

The Volkswagen Tiguan and new Passat are already doing well in global markets. Both the vehicles offer the class-leading driving dynamics, comfort, power, performance and superior safety features, claims Volkswagen.

Commenting on the 2017 launch announcement, Mr. Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “2017 marks 10 years for Volkswagen in India and at this opportune moment, we reiterate our commitment with a strong product line-up aimed at fostering our growth momentum in the country. With the successful launch of the Ameo and introduction of GTI recently, Volkswagen marked its presence in the Compact Sedan and Performance car segment. With exciting new products across the segments, we are now ready to enter the SUV segment with Tiguan and luxury segment with the all new Passat. The slew of launches will ensure every car buyer finds a car to meet their requirements at our showrooms.”

Talking about the Volkswagen Tiguan, this new SUV underpins MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform which will also be used for the new Skoda Octavia. In India, the new VW SUV will come with a 2.0-litre TDI engine paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Safety has always been a prime concern for the German carmaker, and the Tiguan too will be loaded with multiple advanced safety fitments including seven airbags, pedestrian monitoring, front assist with city emergency braking, lane assist, adaptive cruise control and many more.

Volkswagen says that the new-generation Passat sedan represents dynamic design and is loaded with new technologies, advanced entertainment and safety features. Powering the sedan will be the 2.0-litre TDI engine with a 6-speed DSG transmission. Interestingly, the India-spec Passat will come with 9 airbags protection for the first time.
