Volkswagen Golf GTI could be launched in India – Report

Volkswagen Group is readying a range of new models for the Indian market. A new media report claims that the Volkswagen is considering the exciting Golf GTI for the Indian market. The new model will be imported to India via a CBU route. As per the new Government norms, automakers can import 2,500 cars per year without undergoing homologation process.

Only limited numbers of the VW Golf GTI will be made available in our market. The hot hatchback could be priced around Rs 40 lakh. The company believes that there is some demand for limited-run, high-performance four-door cars in India. The Skoda Octavia RS is a huge hit among India’s enthusiasts community. First launched in 1975, the VW Golf GTI is one of the most successful hot hatchbacks internationally. The company is readying the next-gen model, which was recently caught testing. The 8th gen Golf will grow in size, and will offer more power, more tech and will be lighter. The Volkswagen Golf GTI is expected to be powered by a revised version of the existing 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces about 255bhp and 350Nm in the standard model and 290bhp and 370Nm for the more powerful TCR. Volkswagen is also planning to launch the T-ROC and the Tiguan 7-seater SUVs in the Indian market this year. The Golf GTI could arrive in the second half of 2020. The company is also readying 3 all-new cars – T-Cross SUV, new-gen Vento and the new Polo for the Indian market. These models will arrive before 2022.
