Volkswagen AO SUV (Kia Seltos Rival) India Unveil Tomorrow
Volkswagen will unveil the Made-in-India and Made-for-India VW AO SUV tomorrow at an event in New Delhi. Adding to it, the company will also unveil the Tiguan AllSpace, I.D. Crozz and the T-ROC SUVs tomorrow. All 4 SUVs will make public debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The Volkswagen AO is based on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Vision IN SUV. The new AO concept based SUV will go on sale in the country in the first half of 2020. The SUV will come with 2,651mm of wheelbase, which is around 90-100mm longer than the European-spec T-Cross.
The SUV will offer more space inside the cabin and boot than the European-sibling. it will get a higher 205mm ground clearance, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
The Volkswagen AO Concept based SUV will directly rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos, and the lower-end variants of the MG Hector, Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass. The SUV is likely to be offered with 2 petrol engines – a 115bhp, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged and a 130bhp, 1.5-litre EVO TSI. The AO SUV is basically the modified version of the T-Cross SUV, which is on sale in select international markets. Going by the teaser, it features a split chrome grille above the signature logo, twin-pod headlamps and roof-rails. The SUV will have more rugged styling with additional chrome treatment than the European model.
