With the implantation of the BS6 emission norms from 1st April, the German carmaker has discontinued the Volkswagen Ameo subcompact sedan in the country. The model has been removed from the company’s official website. Priced between Rs 5.95 lakh – Rs 9.99 lakh, the VW Ameo was available in three variants and BS4 1.5L TDI diesel and 1.0L MPI petrol engine options.

Recently, the carmaker replaced the Volkswagen Tiguan with the its long-wheelbase version – the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace. The SUV’s 7-seater version has been made available in a single variant at an introductory price of Rs 33.12 lakh. Powering the vehicle is a 1.0L turbocharged petrol motor pushing out a peak power of 190bhp, thus making it more powerful than its 5-seater sibling. Tthe SUV gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox along with AWD (all-wheel-drive) system.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace engine

Launched in 2017, the Volkswagen Tiguan 5-seater was offered in two variants – Comfortline and Highline – priced at Rs 28.07 lakh and Rs 31.46 lakh respectively. Based on the brand’s modular transverse matrix ‘MQB’ platform, the SUV was powered by a 2.0L diesel engine generating 141bhp and 340Nm.

In coming months, the carmaker will roll out the all-new Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV that was first previewed at this year’s Auto Expo. It will be offered with two engine options – a 115bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol and a 148bhp, 1.5L TSI EVO. While the former will be made available on the entry-level and mid-level variants, the latter will be reserved for the top-spec trim.

Volkswagen Taigun Details

Interestingly, the Taigun will be the most powerful vehicle in its segment. Its arch rivals – Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos – return 138bhp with 1.4L turbo petrol motor. The compact SUV will come with three gearbox options – a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic and a 7-speed DSG automatic (only with the 1.5 TSI EVO engine).
