Upcoming Tata Cars, SUVs & EVs – 8 Models

Here’s the list of upcoming new Tata SUVs and electric cars in the country over the period of next 2-3 years –

1. Tata Nexon CNG

After introducing the Tiago and Tigor CNG, Tata Motors is now ready to introduce the CNG version of the Nexon compact SUV. In fact, the company has started testing the Tata Nexon CNG. It is likely to be powered by the 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol engine and two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and an AMT. Compared to the regular gasoline unit that’s good for 120bhp and 170Nm, the SUV’s CNG version is expected to offer 15bhp less power.

2. Tata Harrier Facelift

Tata Motors is preparing to give a mid-life update to Harrier SUV, which is on sale since 2018. The new model is reportedly to be launched in the first half of 2023. This time, the new Harrier facelift will come with advanced technologies and a petrol engine. The SUV will come with a heavily revised front fascia. It will come with a newly designed grille and headlamps, and tweaked bumper. The SUV could get new set of alloy wheels.

The 2023 Tata Harrier is likely to come with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), a 360 degree camera, an updated infotainment system, a fully digital instrument console, electronic parking brake & ambient lighting. The SUV is expected to receive a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is rumoured to produce around 150bhp-160bhp. It is expected to be made available with automatic gearbox, paddle shifters and multiple drive modes.

3. Tata Safari Petrol

Tata Motors is also testing the petrol derivative of the Safari SUV, which is likely to get the 1.5L turbo petrol engine. This engine will first introduce in the Harrier SUV in early 2023. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. Not just petrol engine, Tata Safari is also expected to receive design changes and upgraded interior.

4. Tata Altroz EV

Tata Motors had showcased the Altroz EV concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company has now started testing the electric hatchback. Compared to the regular ICE version, the new Tata Altroz EV has differently styled front and rear bumpers, a closed-off grille, air dams with star pattern, new alloy wheels with blue highlights and blacked-out section on the tailgate. The Blue highlight will continue to be offered inside the cabin as well. It is likely to come with the brand’s updated Ziptron electric technology that is offered on the Tata Nexon EV.

5. Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors has announced to launch 2 new electric cars based on existing ICE models by the end of 2023. The company is reportedly working on the electric version of the Punch micro SUV. It is likely to be the brand’s cheapest electric model in our market. It will use the Ziptron EV powertrain technology that powers the Nexon EV. The compact EV is likely to use a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack powering a 129bhp, electric motor mounted on the front axle. The Nexon EV offers a claimed range of 312km on a single charge.

6. Tata Curvv

Tata Motors had showcased the Curvv electric SUV Coupe concept earlier this year. The production version of the SUV Coupe will arrive in our market by 2024. It is based on the Tata X1 platform that underpins the Nexon range. Tata engineers have modified the platform to accommodate bigger model and different battery packs. The SUV Coupe is likely to measure 4.3 meters in length and will ride on a longer wheelbase. It is likely to feature a larger 40kWh battery pack with range over 400kms. The SUV will take on the likes of the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.

7. Tata Avinya EV

Tata Motors has recently revealed the all-new electric SUV concept, which also marks the debut of brand’s new GEN 3 architecture – ‘Born Electric’. This platform is versatile enough to accommodate multiple body styles. Similar to the conventional skateboard architecture, it has long wheelbase to accommodate large battery pack. The Avinya EV’s production version will witness a market launch in 2025.

8. Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors had showcased the Sierra EV concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The production version of the Sierra EV will be based on Tata’s new SIGMA platform. It is based on the Alfa platform, which has been heavily modified for electrification. In order to accommodate electric powertrain, the automaker has modified its fuel tank area, remove transmission tunnel and pushed the side members for creating a flat floor for battery pack.
