Here is the list of upcoming new scooters in India in the next two years along with their tentative launch date, price & specs

Before bikes captured the Indian two-wheeler market completely, people used scooters for their daily commuting. The chunky two wheelers with conventional design and dated styling were soon overpowered by the sporty bikes with muscular looks and chiselled body. However, the era of scooters returned with the gearless models in the early 2000s. Attributed to contemporary styling, impressive mileage and CVT transmission, scooters are back in demand and account for a massive share in the total sales in the two-wheeler market. In the recent past, India has witnessed foray of several known brands in the scooter segment, and has seen launch of an array of models. Here we bring you the complete list of upcoming scooters in India in 2019 and 2020.

Aprilia Storm 125

Aprilia Storm 125 Price in India

Italian two-wheeler automaker, Aprilia had unveiled the Storm 125 scooter at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. This scooter is basically a sportier version of the SR 125. It features 14-inch wheels shod with Vee Rubber-branded off-road tyres, large windscreen, etc. This scooter is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder carburetted engine that is capable of producing 10.5bhp of power and 9.9Nm of torque. Transmission has been carried over from the SR 125 – i.e. CVT automatic.

Yamaha Aerox 155/ NMax 155

It was speculated that Yamaha will showcase the new Aerox 155 scooter at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018; that didn’t happen. However, this scooter has been spotted in India suggesting that the model could be launched in the country. This premium scooter is equipped with several features like dual LED headlights, LED taillight, wide tubeless tyres, electric socket, seat and fuel lid buttons, 5.8-inch LCD digital meter panel, etc. It is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that churns out a maximum power output of 14.8bhp and a peak torque of 14.4Nm.

Hero ZIR 150

One of the eagerly awaited upcoming scooters in India in 2017 & 2018 from the stables of Hero is the ZIR 150. The model was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and is expected to be launched in two variants-a ‘European style’ step- through and the flat floorboard. Power on the scooter will come from the 157cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine that makes 13.9bhp of power at 8500rpm with 12.7Nm of torque. In terms of features, the bike is likely to get LED winkers, European-styled step seat etc. Additionally, it will also feature flower type disc plates, a digital analog console and integrated pillion handle along with a host of connectivity goodies.

Honda PCX 150

This could be the first premium offering from Honda in the scooter space that currently dominates the market with its longstanding Activa model. It is undoubtedly one of the most awaited upcoming scooters in India. This was among the few models that were showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. Reports in media suggest that the scooter has already been imported to India for R&D purpose. It is to be noted that the model is already sold in international markets and features a 150cc, single cylinder, fuel-injected engine with 11bhp and 14Nm of torque. On the feature front, the premium model is expected to sport LED turn indicators, digital instrument console and front & rear disc brakes.

Hero Duet E

This upcoming scooter in India from Hero will be a pure electric model that debuted at the India’s largest motoring event, Auto Expo last year. Just so you know, the scooter has been designed by Hero’s in-house R&D team and it will feature a 5kW/14Nm electric motor that propels the scooter from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds. The scooter ostensibly offers a range of 60kms in one complete charge. Additionally, it features a black panel on the front apron, white livery and green decals. While there is no specific timeline for the launch of Hero Duet-E, we expect it to come either in 2017 or next year.

Hero Maestro Edge 125 

In a bid to further expand share, Hero MotoCorp is planning to launch a range of new scooters in the Indian market. The company will launch the 125cc version of the Maestro Edge in the country. The new model was unveiled at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The new Hero Maestro Edge 125 with sporty styling will appeal young buyers. It is powered by a 125cc, single-Energy cylinder Boost engine that churns out 8.7bhp of power and 10.2Nm of torque.

Vespa GTS 300

Piaggio is exploring options to launch Vespa GTS 300 in the Indian market. Upon its launch, it will go up against the premium scooters in India. Since the scooter will be routed to India through CBU, it is expected to carry a hefty price tag. Sporting retro elements, the scooter will use a 278cc, single cylinder, engine good for 21bhp and 22.3Nm of torque. On the feature front, it will come with a LCD display, while in the overseas markets, expect it to get traction control, dual-channel ABS etc.

Expected Price– Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh

TVS Jupiter 125 representation purpose

The only model that has been able to give Activa a tough fight is this stellar scooter from TVS. Currently, it is available with a 110cc engine and if media reports are to be believed, the company is planning to launch a larger capacity 125cc version.  Testifying the launch, a camouflaged model was spotted at one of the company’s stockyard lately. It is believed that the scooter will largely inherit its styling bits and looks from the 110cc version. Power on the scooter will reportedly come from the 125cc, fuel-injected engine mated to a CVT. In terms of power, we expect it to develop 10bhp and return impressive mileage ranging between 50 to 55kmpl.

New-gen TVS Wego

Homegrown two-wheeler maker had launched the 2018 Wego in October, this year. Interestingly, the company has already started working on the second generation Wego. The new-gen model has been spotted testing a couple of times, which suggest that the original design of the scooter will remain intact. However, it will receive several changes in the form new lightings, mirrors, sharper body panels and new features. The scooter will also receive all-new digital analogue instrument console and a new exhaust unit. It will be powered by the same 110cc, single-cylinder carbureted engine that is good for 8bhp of power and 8Nm of torque.
