Upcoming Royal Enfield Meteor 350 – Price Expectations

Royal Enfield has several new models in the pipeline right from the new-generation models of the existing 350cc bikes to all-new electric motorcycles. The Chennai based bikemaker will also expand its 650cc model lineup in coming years. Talking about the new-generation 350cc models, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 will be the successor of the Thunderbird 350 X and the first model to hit roads. While it’s official launch date and details are yet to be revealed by the bikemaker, the Meteor is expected to arrive in coming months.

Based on the new modular J platform, the RE Meteor 350 will receive significant cosmetic changes along with a new powertrain. All these updates will make it slightly more expensive than its predecessor (Thunderbird 350) that costs Rs 1.56 lakh (ex-showroom). The Meteor is estimated to be priced around Rs 1.65 lakh. If launched at this price point, it will take on the Jawa (Rs 1.73 lakh onwards), Jawa Forty-Two (Rs 1.60 lakh onwards) and Benelli Imperiale 400 (Rs 1.99 lakh). That said, the RE Meteor will be more affordable than most of its rivals.

Visually, the updated headlamp, a new fuel tank with revised fuel-filler cap and large front and rear fender make it look slightly different from its predecessor. The side panels and taillamps have also been revised. The bike rides on newly-designed alloy wheels and have longer split grab rails. The blacked out wheels, engine and exhaust enhance its sporty appearance. The new Royal Enfield 350cc bike gets an asymmetrically mounted semi-digital instrument dial. On the engine front, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is likely to get a new BS6-compliant OHC (overhead camshaft) engine boosted with fuel injection technology. Its power and torque figures, however, are still under the wraps. The existing BS4 350cc engine, paired with a 5-speed gearbox, delivers 19.8bhp and 28Nm of torque. With lighter body built and more refined engine, the RE Meteor is expected to deliver better riding experience. Though, its braking and suspension setup will be carried over from the predecessor.
