Upcoming New Cars From Toyota-Suzuki Partnership

Upcoming new Maruti Cars

Toyota and Suzuki joined hands to develop new cars, technologies and platforms for India as well as global markets. The duo had launched the Glanza, a re-badged Maruti Baleno as their first product under the new joint venture. Here we bring you a list of new cars that will be launched under the new Toyota-Suzuki joint venture –

Toyota Urban Cruiser

The second product under the new Toyota-Suzuki joint venture will be an all-new compact SUV, called the Urban Cruiser, which will be launched during July-August 2020. To be sold under the Toyota nameplate, the upcoming compact SUV will be based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza. While Glanza was the re-badged Baleno with no design changes, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will receive significant design changes. It will have new grille, new bumpers, new interior scheme and colour options. The SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with dual-battery SHVS mild-hybrid system that produces 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manuala and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.

Toyota’s Ertiga

Not just Brezza, Toyota will also introduce an all-new entry-level MPV based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Details about the new model are yet to be announced, but the revised version is expected to be launched in 2021. It will receive significant design changes in the form of new grille, new bumper and new interior scheme. The vehicle will share the mechanics with the Maruti Ertiga, which has a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system.

Toyota’s Ciaz

Maruti Ciaz S Sport Variant

Maruti Suzuki is working on the next-gen Ciaz sedan, which is expected to be launched in 2022-23. It is expected that Toyota will also launch an all-new mid-sized sedan based on the new Maruti Ciaz. Details about the sedan are yet to be revealed. It is expected to be offered with the 1.5L K15B petrol engine with hybrid fuel option.

Suzuki ACross

Toyota will help Suzuki to expand their base in the European markets. Suzuki will introduce an all-new mid-sized premium SUV based on the Toyota RAV4 SUV. It is rumoured to be called the Suzuki ACross. It will be a re-badged version of the fifth-gen RAV4 hybrid and will be positioned above the Vitara. Suzuki will made some design changes and feature upgrade to give the ACross a family look. There will be no changes to the engine specifications of the SUV. The RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a front-mounted electric motor that produces 65bhp/121Nm. The combination offers 218bhp of power and 221Nm of torque for the FWD model and 222bhp/221Nm for the AWD model.  The Suzuki ACross will be positioned against the likes of the Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq and the Citroen C5 Aircross.

Suzuki’s Corolla Touring Sport

Suzuki will also launch the re-badged version of the Toyota Corolla Touring Sport in the European markets. It will share mechanical bits and running gear from the Toyota’s model. The biggest changes will be made to the design and interior. The Corolla Touring Sport hybrid version gets a 1.8L petrol engine or a 2.0L petrol engine paired to an electric motor. The total output from 1.8L hybrid unit is rated at 122bhp and 142Nm of torque, while the 2.0L hybrid offers a combined power output of 180bhp and 190Nm. A CVT automatic transmission is offered as standard.

Toyota-Suzuki C-segment MPV

Toyota and Suzuki are also jointly working on all-new C-segment MPV, which will be positioned right between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta. The new model will be based on the monocoque front-wheel-drive layout. This model will directly rival the Mahindra Marazzo MPV. Adding to it, Toyota will also supply this model to Maruti Suzuki. The duo is also working on affordable electric cars for the Indian as well as growing markets. Toyota will also launch the re-badged Wagon R electric in our market in 2021.

Toyota-Suzuki mid-sized SUV

Toyota RAV4 Front

Similar to the C-segment MPV, Toyota-Suzuki will also launch an all-new mid-sized SUV in the Indian market. The new model is rumoured to be based on the new Toyota’s DNGA platform, which also underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. The new model will directly rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks.
