Indian car buyers always looking for a product that offers spacious cabin to accommodate 7-adults comfortably. Known as MPVs or MUVs, these cars come with capable engines and feature-loaded cabin. Kia Motors has recently launched the Carnival MPV, which has received an excellent response from buyers. Maruti Suzuki’s premium XL6 MPV also received positive response from buyers with over 22000 units sold within 1 year. Here is the list of upcoming MPVs that will go on sale in India in the next 2 years –

Hyundai Starex

2021 Hyundai Starex MPV India

The first model in our list of upcoming new MPVs is the Starex MPV, which is rumoured to be launched in India in late 2021. The company is currently evaluating this MPV for our market. It is based on the new generation N3 platform, which also underpins the new Kia Sorento and the next-gen Carnival. The company is currently testing the next-gen Starex, which has been spotted multiple times in South Korea. It will challenge the likes of the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Innova Crysta. If launched in India, the Kia Starex will be powered by a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 197bhp and 440Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front-wheels via a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Kia Compact MPV

New Kia Compact MPV

Buoyed by excellent response for Carnival, Kia is now considering an all-new compact MPV for the Indian market. The new MPV is reportedly to be based on the Seltos platform, which also underpins the new-gen Hyundai Creta. To feature all-new design, the Kia compact MPV will be positioned between the Seltos and the Carnival. It will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and the Mahindra Marazzo. The company officials confirmed that the new Kia compact MPV will come with an “affordable price” tag and offer “adequate space” for seven occupants. The new MPV is expected to be produced at the carmaker’s Anantapur based plant in Andhra Pradesh. It is expected to be offered with 2 engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo-diesel.

Tata mid-sized MPV

New Tata MPV

Next model in our list of upcoming new MPVs in India is the Tata’s upcoming MPV, which is currently under development. If media reports are to be believed, the new Tata MPV will be based on the OMEGA ARC platform. This platform currently underpins the Harrier and the upcoming Gravitas 7-seater SUV. The new MPV will challenge the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo and the Toyota Innova Crysta. Details about the new models are still under wraps; however, the new model will be designed on the company’s evolved IMPACT 2.0 design language. It is expected to share the engine options with the Harrier, which includes a 2.0L diesel and 1.5L petrol.

Toyota’s Ertiga

Toyota Maruti MPV

After introducing the Glanza based on the Baleno, Toyota will launch a 7-seater MPV in India. It will be the re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The revised Ertiga will receive design changes in-line with Toyota’s models for the ASEAN markets. It will be powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine that is capable of producing 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota Innova Crysta Facelift

Japanese automaker is also readying the facelift versions of the Fortuner and the Innova Crysta, which will be launched in our market in late 2020 or early 2021. The upgraded model will receive cosmetic design changes in the form of revised grille, new headlamps and updated tail-lamps. Inside the cabin, the facelift will get updated infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, 360 degree camera and others. It will continue to be offered with the BSVI compliant 2.7-litre petrol and 2.4-litre diesel engines.

Toyota-Maruti C-Segment MPV

New Toyota MPV India (1)

Toyota is also working on an all-new C-segment MPV, which is rumoured to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be developed jointly by Toyota and Suzuki and will be sold via Maruti Suzuki showrooms. The new MPV will be based on the monocoque platform, thus making it lighter and more frugal than the ladder-frame based Mahindra Marazzo. It will have 7-seats layout and interior packed with several advanced comfort, connectivity and safety features. The new model will be offered with a petrol engine and an all-new hybrid fuel option.
