Maruti Suzuki’s new flagship model is ready to hit Indian roads in coming months. It will be a MPV based on the Toyota Innova Hycross and could be named Maruti Engage. The carmaker recently revealed its plan to source the hybrid MPV from Toyota and place it top-of-the-line in terms of price. Maruti Suzuki believes that the model will be a “path breaker” for the brand, while they don’t expect it to do high volumes. The Engage will be the third major offering from the Indo-Japanese automaker this year.
Maruti Engage Launch Timeline – Expected
The Indo-Japanese automaker has confirmed that its new premium MPV will arrive by July 2023. Its exact launch date, however, is yet to be announced.
Maruti Engage Price – Expected
The Engage MPV will be the most expensive offering from Maruti Suzuki in India. While its entry-level variant could be slightly more affordable than the Innova Hycross, the fully-packed hybrid variant will relatively be expensive. Its prices are expected to fall within the price range of Rs 18.20 lakh – Rs 29.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti Engage Specifications
Similar to the Toyota Innova Hycross, the new Maruti MPV will come with the 2.0L, 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle and 2.0L petrol engine. While the strong hybrid version delivers 184bhp with an e-Drive transmission, the regular petrol unit makes 172bhp with 205Nm. Maruti Engage Platform, Design
The new Maruti MPV will use Toyota’s monocoque chassis and underpin the TNGA-C platform. While its official debut is a few weeks away, a latest digital rendering previews its possible design. The Indo-Japanese automaker is likely to make a few noticeable changes at the front end. The hybrid MPV might carry a grille similar to the Grand Vitara along with differently designed bumper and headlamps. Its rear is likely to share resemblance to the XL6. No changes will be made to its dimensions. Similar to the Innova Hycross, the Engage MPV will measure 4755mm in length, 1845mm-1850mm in width and 1785-1795mm in height.
Maruti Engage Features
The Engage will be the first Maruti Suzuki to come with ADAS tech offering features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, lane keep assist, pre-collision system and rear cross traffic alert. Safety features such as traction control, 6 airbags, electronic stability program and ABS with EBD will also be on offer. The MPV’s top-end variant will offer ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, memory function for the driver’s seat, paddle shifters, dual-tone black and brown interior with Dark Chestnut leather seat upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and a powered tailgate.
For connectivity purpose, there will be a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone support. The MPV will come with 7 and 8-seats configurations featuring two captain’s chairs with a segment-first ottoman function for the second row and bench seats for the second and third rows respectively.
