Upcoming Hyundai, Kia Electric Cars In India – Details Here

Hyundai and Kia, the South Korean sister brands, aim to strengthen their market in the coming years. Both automakers have planned multiple products for the Indian market including 6 new electric cars (3 from each brand). According to a fresh report, Hyundai and Kia will introduce at least 6 new EVs by the end of 2024. The product strategy will be similar to their ICE models that means the upcoming Hyundai and Kia electric cars will share multiple components and features, but look different.

While the Hyundai will begin with the Kona facelift, Kia EV6 will be the first electric car from the South Korean carmaker in the country. The updated Hyundai Kona is expected to hit Indian roads towards the end of this year. Similar to the current model, the new one will come via CKD route and assembled locally from the imported kits. It will deliver a range of 305km and 484km.

Kia EV6 Specs Range

The Kia e-Niro will share its battery packs and electric motor with the new Kona. Though, it will be a CBU (Completely Built Up) unit and it’s expected to arrive sometime in 2023. The EV could be offered with either a 39.2kWh battery pack and a 136bhp electric motor or a 64kWh battery and a 204bhp electric motor. The e-Niro offers a claimed WLTP range of 289km and 455km.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are reported to be planned for India. Both EVs share the E-GMP modular platform and are expected to come via CBU route. While the Ioniq 5 might witness a release sometime in 2023, the Kia EV6 could hit showrooms next year. The entry-level variants of both EVs come with 2WD system and 170bhp, 58kWh battery accelerating 0 – 100kmph in 8.5 seconds. The bigger battery variants get 301bhp (Ioniq 5) and 321bhp (EV6) battery pack with AWD system.

The South Korean sister brands will also target the mass-segment with heavily localized, Made-in-India electric cars. The upcoming Hyundai and Kia electric cars for the mass-market will be SUVs with small battery packs and a low-cost skateboard platform. The Made-in-India Hyundai and Kia EVs are reported to launch sometime in 2024. Both models are likely to offer a range between 200km – 220km.
