Complete list of Upcoming Hatchback Cars in India in the next 2 years

Seeing the growing competition in the hatchback segment, carmakers are planning to launch new and facelifts of their existing hatchback cars in India. Starting from an entry-level small car to a premium performance oriented hatchbacks, at least 10-12 new hatchbacks are coming to India in the next 2 years. Here, we bring you the list of upcoming hatchback cars in India in 2016, 2017, 2018.

Maruti Baleno RS

In recent times, there is a decent increase in demand for performance oriented cars in the Indian car market. Cars like VW Polo GT TSI and the Ford Figo 1.5L have received a positive response from car buyers. Buoyed by excellent response for Baleno, the Indo-Japanese auto giant is all set to launch a performance oriented version of the hatchback in the country. Named Baleno RS, the vehicle will get a turbocharged petrol motor and a sporty body kit.

To be sold through NEXA premium dealerships, the Baleno RS will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This engine will also power the Vitara Brezza petrol, which is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2017. Named “Boosterjet”, this small engine is capable of producing 110bhp of power at 5,500rpm and 170Nm of peak torque at 2,000rpm to 3,500rpm (5MT) and 1,500rpm to 4,000rpm (6AT). Internationally, the hatchback is available in both manual and automatic versions, and same are expected to arrive in India as well.

The Baleno RS looks largely identical to the regular model, except for the new body kits. Features like sporty alloy wheels, aggressive bumpers and grille, slightly revised tail-lamps give it a sporty profile. Other equipment include tyre pressure monitoring system, radar-based brake support, all-four disc brakes, new sport seats with contrasting stitches and RS badging.

Launch Date – Festive Season

Expected Price – Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 9.5 lakh

Competition – Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Ford Figo 1.5L
