7 New Ford Cars Coming to India in Next 2 Years

Ford India has a handful of new models and facelifts that will see release in coming years. The American carmaker kick started 2018 with the unveiling of the new Freestyle crossover, which was launched in April. Besides this, the company has introduced its new Dragon engine family with Freestyle and this engine will also power upcoming all new products including the Figo and Aspire facelifts. Ford is also working on a new platform codenamed B563 that will form base for its new models. For now, we have listed all the upcoming Ford cars that are slated to launch in India in 2018 and 2019, read on to know more.

1. Ford Kuga SUV

Most of the carmakers in India re-focusing on SUVs, and Ford is following the trend. Currently, it has two SUVs in its product range, a subcompact model (EcoSport) and a premium SUV (Endeavour). To fill in the gap between both these cars, Ford is planning to bring in the Kuga SUV from its global range. Upon its launch, Kuga will rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500 and the Renault Captur in the segment. As for the styling, the front is expected to be inspired by Endeavour with similar grille and swooping headlamps. Some of its key highlights will include pronounced front bumper with a wider mesh air-dam, fog lamps, new alloys, re-designed taillamps and shorter rear glass.

Interior will be enveloped in all black, layered with a large touchscreen infotainment system supported by Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, GPS navigation and SYNC 3. Engine setup of the Kuga is likely to include a 2.0-litre TDCi oil burner and a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol unit that are good for 147bhp with 370Nm and 179bhp with 177Nm respectively. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed SelectShift auto unit.

Expected Launch – Late 2019

2. Ford Mustang Facelift (2018)

The next in our list of upcoming Ford cars in India is the Mustang facelift that made its world debut at the 2017 North American International Auto Show. For the 2018 model year, the muscle car receives subtle design upgrades along with new technology and a more powerful engine. As for the changes, it will receive cosmetic updates on the outside as well as inside. Additionally, the interior will get a new smartphone integration and Ford SYNC Connect with FordPass. The list of features will also include Ford’s first 12-inch all-digital LCD display, Ford driver assist technology, etc.

Aside from the cosmetic updates, it will also get mechanical changes. That said, the suspension set up will be tweaked for better ride quality. Powering the muscle car will be a more powerful 5-litre V8 petrol unit along with a new duel delivery system. The new V8 petrol engine will be paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and deliver power worth 395bhp with 515Nm of torque.

Expected Launch – End 2018

3. New Ford Figo Facelift

Ford India’s first successful model, the Figo hatchback received a generation change in 2015, albeit the second-gen Figo failed to repeat success witnessed by its predecessor. Therefore, Ford is working on a facelift version that is expected to launch sometime this year. Reports in media suggest that the Figo facelift will be first launch in Brazil, followed by its India launch. The hatchback’s updated model has witnessed minor design and feature updates, while the major change will reside under the bonnet. On the exterior, the 2018 Figo facelift features a new trapezoidal grille with chrome surround, larger headlamps with DRLs, revised front and rear bumpers, newly-designed alloys with wheel arch cladding and new taillamps.

Inside, the car gets a 6.5-inch SYNC3 touchsceen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, new upholstery, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, automatic climate control and many more features. Engine options on the carline will include a 95bhp, 1.2-litre Ti-VCT, a 99bhp, 1.5-litre TDCi and a 121.3bhp, 1.5-litre Ti-VCT Dragon petrol unit. While transmission choices are expected to be carried over from the current model.

4. New Ford Aspire Facelift

Along with the Figo facelift, Ford is also working on the new Aspire facelift which is one among the upcoming Ford cars in India that will hit our shores in coming years. In fact, a heavily camouflaged Aspire was recently spied undergoing test runs giving inkling of the expected changes on the subcompact sedan. The key design updates will include revised front and rear bumpers, new front grille, tweaked projector headlamps with LED DRLs and newly-designed alloys.

Interior could be revised with new centre console, seat upholstery and other updates.  Additionally, the model will receive Ford’s new SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Like the Figo facelift, the new Aspire will receive Ford’s new Dragon family engines. The new engines will include a 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol and a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol. The diesel version will be equipped with 1.5-litre TDCi engine producing 99bhp.

Expected Launch – Sometime in 2018

Expected Price – Rs 5.60 lakh to Rs 8.50 lakh

Competition – Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Maruti Dzire

5. Ford Endeavour 2018

Ford India launched Endeavour in an all-new avatar recently and it proved to be a good bet for the carmaker. Knowing that competition has intensified in the segment and carmakers are developing new models, the company has already started testing its facelift that was spied in Australia. Some its design updates will be inspired by the global-spec Expedition and Explorer. The new model will receive updated radiator grille, pronounced bumper, new chrome mirror housing, new alloys and tweaked taillamps.

Unlike the global model, the India-bound Endeavour facelift will miss out on features such as automatic emergency braking and radar based control. Features such as new dashboard, rear view camera, a corner-mounted sonar sensors,, a new 80-inch touchscreen SUNC3 infotainment system will be offered on the new Endeavour. Changes will be made to the interior and it will continue deriving power from the same set of engines from the current model. That said, the facelift is likely to get the 2.2-litre TDCi diesel and the 3.2-litre TDCi diesel units.

Expected Price – Rs 25 lakh to Rs 32 lakh

6. Ford’s New Premium Hatchback (B562)

Apart from the above mentioned upcoming Ford cars, the American based company is also developing an all new premium hatchback for the Indian market. The premium hatchback is being developed under the codename B562 and will take on the likes of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20 in the B+ segment. To be built on Ford’s new platform (B563), the model will be positioned above Figo in Ford India’s line-up. Currently, there is nothing much known about the premium hatchback, though reports suggest that Ford could bring the new model sometime in 2020. In terms of engine, we expect it to be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options in manual and automatic variants.

Expected Launch – 2019-2020

Expected Price – Rs 5.50 lakh to Rs 8.50 lakh

Competition – Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno

7. Ford’s Mid-Size Sedan (B563)

Along with a premium hatchback, another model that is being developed for Ford’s India line-up is a mid-size sedan. The sedan will go squarely on Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz in the segment. Yet in nascent stage, the sedan is being developed under the codename B563 and will be based on Ford’s new underpinnings codenamed B563. Moreover, the model will be slotted above Aspire subcompact sedan in India. It will primarily fill in the void created by Fiesta that was phased out in 2015. As for the engine options, expect it to be launched in both petrol and diesel options with a manual and automatic transmission.

Expected Launch – 2019-2020

Expected Price – Rs 7.50 lakh to Rs 10 lakh

Competition – Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz
