Tata Motors is currently ruling the passenger electric vehicle segment with close to 90 percent market share. The company is aiming to maintain its lead over rivals by introducing a range of new EVs in the country. On the other hand, Mahindra is currently selling the XUV400 in the electric vehicle segment. The homegrown UV maker has already announced plans to launch a wide range of EVs in the country in the next 3-4 years. Tata Motors is preparing to launch a wide range of new EVs. Most of the models will be offered with ICE as well as electric powertrain options. The homegrown UV maker will introduce the electrified version of the Punch micro SUV in 2023. The company is also preparing the electric version of the Harrier and Safari SUVs in 2024. In fact, the Tata Harrier EV concept version was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo.
The homgrown UV maker has confirmed the Curvv SUV Coupe in the country in 2024. The Curvv will be offered with petrol as well as electric powertrains. The company had showcased the EV concept in 2022. The new model will be based on the GEN 2 platform, which is a heavily modified version of the existing ALFA platform.
Tata had showcased the Sierra 4-door concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. Its final version is scheduled to be launched in our market sometime in 2025. The company will introduce the lifestyle SUV with two powertrain options – Petrol & Electric. The new Tata Sierra SUV will be designed and developed on the Gen 2 platform or SIGMA architecture, which is a hybrid architecture. The electric model is likely to be fitted with a 60kWh battery pack. The Sierra EV is likely to be offered with an AWD setup with two electric motors mounted on front and rear axles. It is likely to offer a range of around 500km on a single charge.

Mahindra had showcased the new 5 electric SUV concept in 2022. The company had showcased 2 Electric SUVs under XUV brand and 3 electric SUVs under the new BE brand. Out of these electric vehicles, 3 models will be launched in our market by 2025. The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be the first model to be launched in our market by December 2024, while the XUV.E9 will be launched by April 2025.
The Mahindra BE 05 electric SUV will go on sale in our market by October 2025. All three SUVs will be based on the brand’s new INGLO EV skateboard platform. The XUV e8 looks largely identical to the XUV700 SUV. It is around 45mm longer, 10mm wider and 5mm taller than the XUV700. The new SUVs will feature an all-wheel drive system and an 80kWh battery pack. It is claimed to offer a power output in the range of 230hp to 350hp.
