Upcoming Electric Scooters – Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Suzuki

Electric is the future, as most of the brands – two-wheeler and four-wheeler are working on their respective electric vehicles for the Indian market. Auto makers believe that electric will contribute around 30% of total Indian passenger vehicle sales; however, this is highly unlikely looking at the current situation. In this article, we talk about upcoming electric scooters from popular two-wheeler brands including Honda, Hero MotoCorp and Suzuki in India in the next couple of years –

Hero Electric Scooter

Gogoro Viva Electric Scooter

Hero MotoCorp will enter into electric vehicle space in the first half of 2022. The company has collaborated with Gogora of Taiwan to develop new technologies and products for the Indian market. Hero MotoCorp will take Gogoro’s help to introduce battery swapping technology in India. Interestingly, Gogoro VIVA electric scooter has been trademarked in India.

Hero MotoCorp could introduce a new lightweight electric scooter based on the Gogoro VIVA. This lightweight scooter is on sale in international markets in two variants – Keyless & Basic. The Viva’s electric motor produces 3KW of power and 115Nm of torque. This scooter offers an electric range of 85km and weighs just 80kg.

Suzuki Burgman Electric

Suzuki has started testing prototype of its first electric scooter in India. The new electric scooter will be based on the popular Burgman maxi-scooter. The spotted model was finished in a special White and Blue dual-tone colour scheme highlighting its electric nature. The new Suzuki electric scooter will be equipped with digital instrument cluster that’s likely to come with Bluetooth and 4G LTE connectivity. That means, the user will be able to connect smartphone and access connected vehicle functions.

The new Suzuki Burgman electric is expected to be equipped with a 3-4 kWh battery pack, paired to a 4-6kW electric motor. It’s likely to deliver a top speed around 80kmph and a range of 70-90km on a single charge.

Japanese two-wheeler maker, Honda has also filed a patent for the PCX electric scooter in India. The patent images reveal that the scooter features a removable battery. The PCX EV is already on sale in select international markets. It is equipped with a 4.2kW (5.6bhp) motor and offers a top speed of 60kmph. It also gets swappable battery packs and offers a range of 40km. The batteries can be charged in 6 hours when plugged to an EV charging stations.

The electric scooter will feature alloy wheels, and an ABS-equipped front disc and rear drum brake. For suspension duties, the scooter will get telescopic front forks and twin hydraulic shock absorbers.
