The sub 10 lakh four-wheeler space is one of the most popular segments in India, with some of the top-selling models accounting for a huge chunk of sales. In other words, it could rightly be referred as the money-spinning segment with majority of volumes drawn by niche models such as Honda City, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the likes. In fact, City has been the most profitable product for the Japanese automaker in India. While we have already witnessed launch of some of the highly anticipated vehicles in the current year, there is lot more coming up in the next couple of years. If you are planning to buy a new car that falls in the same price band, here’s a complete list of the upcoming cars under 10 lakhs slated to launch in India in the next two years.

1. Tata Hornbill/ H2X

The homegrown automaker, Tata will enter into the micro SUV segment in India in 2020. The company had showcased the H2X concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It is expected that the near-production model will make debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. To be positioned below Nexon, the Hornbill will be based on the Alfa modular platform that also underpins the Altroz premium hatchback. The small SUV will directly rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100 NXT and the upcoming Maruti’s mini SUV based on the Concept Future S. The small SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that will also power the Altroz.

2. New Maruti Future S/S-Presso

Next in our list of upcoming cars under 10 lakhs is the new Maruti Future S concept. This model was unveiled at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Designed in India, the concept previews an all-new design of Maruti’s future compact SUV. This will be the company’s first budget SUV in India. Featuring SUV-like stance and bold presence, the Maruti Suzuki Future S will rival several entry-level cars including Hyundai’s upcoming small car, Renault Kwid 1.0L and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

This small SUV is based on Maruti Suzuki’s new generation HEARTECT platform. Design highlights include new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, chrome grille, sloping-type roofline, bright silver skid plates, etc. This entry-level SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine that is good for 82bhp and 113Nm of torque. The company could also use the 1.0L K-Series engine that powers the Celerio.

3. New Nissan Micra

New generation Micra hatchback is the next model in our list of upcoming cars under 10 lakhs in India. The new-generation Micra is already on sale in the European markets. However, the India-spec model will be based on a new low-cost CMF-A+ platform. It will be bigger and more spacious than the outgoing model. In terms of features, the new model will get touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity features, automatic climate control, rear parking camera, LED DRLs, etc.

The hatchback will be bigger and more premium than the current model. It will be pitted against the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. The hatchback will share mechanics with the existing models. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine; however, both engines will be tuned for more power and fuel efficiency.

4. Datsun Cross 2019

Nissan’s low-cost brand, Datsun will launch the production version of the GO Cross concept in the Indian market in 2018-19. Called Datsun Cross, this small SUV has already been launched in the Indonesian market. This model is a seven-seater crossover based on the GO+ MPV, but it comes with significant changes inside and outside. It shares most of its body panels with the GO+ MPV. Design highlights include body cladding, integrated roof spoiler, new front and higher ground clearance, etc.

Inside the cabin, the small SUV gets a new dashboard, a touchscreen infotainment system and newly styled air-conditioning vents. For passengers’ safety and security, this SUV gets dual-front airbags, ABS, stability control, rear parking sensors and seatbelts for all three rows as standard. It is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine paired to either a CVT automatic or a five-speed manual unit. Upon its launch, this crossover will challenge the likes of Tata Nexon, Honda WRV and Maruti Vitara Brezza.

5. New Renault Triber

Renault will launch an all-new Triber crossover-MPV in the Indian market. This model will be a 5-seater car with a provision of adding a third row seats to offer additional space for 2 occupants. Scheduled to be launched in August, 2019, the Renault Triber is likely to be priced around Rs 4.4 lakh. It is based on the modified Kwid’s platform. The Renault Triber will be powered by a 1.0L, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox options. The gasoline motor will deliver a maximum power of 71bhp and 96Nm of torque. It measures 3990mm in length, 1739mm in width and 1643mm in height with a wheelbase of 2636mm. Its ground clearance stands at 182mm. The 7-seater MPV will come in 5 colour schemes – Orange, Ice Cool White, Electric Blue, Moonlight Silver and Fiery Red.

6. New Hyundai Grand i10

Hyundai has started testing the new-gen Grand i10 hatchback, which is scheduled to be launched on August 20, 2019. The new model will be based on the new Santro’s platform, which is compatible to meet the upcoming crash test norms. It will be bigger and spacious than the outgoing model. While the overall profile will remain the same, the new Grand i10 will have modern design elements including LED DRLs and LED tail-lights. 7. 2020 Hyundai Elite i20

Korean automaker, Hyundai will launch the next-gen Elite i20 hatchback in the country in 2020. The new model will be based on the Venue’s platform. It will be wider than the outgoing model. The wheelbase will also be increased to improve the legroom space for the rear occupants. The hatchback will share most of the interior components with the Venue compact SUV, which means it will get the Hyundai’s BlueLink connectivity solution. Adding to it, the hatchback will receive the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 7-speed DCT. Other engine options will include a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel. 8. New Volkswagen Polo

The German premium carmaker will launch the next generation VW Polo hatchback, which will be based on Volkswagen’s MQB-AO IN platform. The company is aiming to localise this platform in India to introduce several of its global cars. The new model is longer, wider and more spacious than the previous model. VW has already unveiled the new Polo in the European markets. It continues to feature VW’s evolutionary styling with sharp body creases, large stance, chiselled sides and modish cues. The cabin of the SUV features a high placed touchscreen, virtual cockpit digital instrument display from Audi TT, etc. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic unit.

9. Tata Altroz

At the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, Tata Motors had showcased the 45X premium hatchback concept. This model previews the brand’s future premium hatchback, which will be developed on Tata’s new AMP (Advanced Modular Platform). Called the Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The new model will rival the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. Design inspiration for the car comes from Tata’s new IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. The hatchback will be equipped with several modern technologies like touchscreen infotainment system, height adjustable drivers’ seat, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, etc. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that produces 100bhp of power and 172Nm of torque.
