Upcoming Cars Under 10 Lakhs

The sub 10 lakh four-wheeler space is one of the most popular segments in India, with some of the top-selling models accounting for a huge chunk of sales. In other words, it could rightly be referred as the money-spinning segment with majority of volumes drawn by niche models such as Honda City, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the likes. In fact, City has been the most profitable product for the Japanese automaker in India. While we have already witnessed launch of some of the highly anticipated vehicles in the current year, there is lot more coming up in the next couple of years. If you are planning to buy a new car that falls in the same price band, here’s a complete list of the upcoming cars under 10 lakhs slated to launch in India in the next two years.

1. Tata HBX

Tata HBX SUV Design

The homegrown automaker, Tata will enter into the micro SUV segment in India in the FY21. The company had showcased the H2X micro SUV concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The near-production model made its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. To be positioned below Nexon, the Hornbill will be based on the Alfa modular platform that also underpins the Altroz premium hatchback. The small SUV will directly rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100 NXT and the Maruti Ignis. The small SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that will also power the Altroz .

2. Renault HBC Kiger

Renault Kiger SUV

French automaker, Renault is gearing up for the launch of an all-new sub-4 meter SUV in India. Codenamed HBC, the upcoming compact SUV is rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger. The sub-4 meter SUV will directly rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Kia Sonet. It will be based on the locally developed Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A+ modular platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

3. Nissan Magnite

Next model in our list of upcoming cars under 10 lakhs is the Nissan Magnite compact SUV. Codenamed EM2, the sub-4 meter SUV will be the most affordable Nissan in our market. It will be based on the CMF-A+ modular platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber and the upcoming HBC compact SUV. It will be powered by the same 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Kiger. Both manual and CVT automatic versions will be on offer.

4. New-gen Hyundai i20

The next-gen Hyundai i20 is the next model in our list of upcoming cars under Rs 10 lakhs in India. The company has already released the details and pictures of the new model for the global markets. The India-spec model will be same to the global model, and will be equipped with several segment-first features. The new model will be offered with 3 engine options – a 118bhp, 1.0L turbocharged petrol, a 83bhp, 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 99bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. The company will offer automatic gearbox options with the turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.

5. Renault sub-compact sedan

Renault will utilise the new CMF-A+ modular platform to develop an all-new sub-4 meter sedan, which will be launched in 2021. The new model will be the most affordable in its category, and will rival the Tata Tigor. It will share most of the interior components and features with the HBC compact SUV. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 99bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. The company could also introduce the naturally-aspirated version of this engine, which offers 74bhp of power. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

6. Kia Sonet

Korean automaker, Kia Motors will launch the Sonet sub-4 meter SUV in the country in August 2020. The new model will be based on the Venue’s platform. Unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Sonet will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. The new model will be equipped with several segment-first features including 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, UVO connect and others. It will be offered with 3 engine options – a 1.0L turbocharged petrol, a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be on offer.

7. Honda compact SUV

Honda is now readying an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, which will be based on the new-gen City platform. Scheduled to be unveiled in 2021, the new sub-4 meter SUV could be launched in our market in late 2021 or early 2022. It will be offered with 2 petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol with mild-hybrid system. Both manual and CVT automatic gearbox options will be on offer. The India-spec model is also likely to receive the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine producing 99bhp and 200Nm of torque.

8. New Maruti Jimny/Gypsy

5-door Maruti Jimny India

The last model in our list of upcoming Cars under 10 lakhs is the next-gen Maruti Gypsy or the new Jimny. The company had showcased the 3-door version of the Jimny at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, India is most likely to receive the 5-door model. It is based on the ladder-on-frame chassis, and will be manufactured at the Suzuki’s Sanand based plant in Gujarat. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine producing 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. It will come with all-wheel-drive system as standard.

9. New Volkswagen Polo

The German premium carmaker will launch the next generation VW Polo hatchback, which will be based on Volkswagen’s MQB-AO IN platform. The company is aiming to localise this platform in India to introduce several of its global cars. The new model is longer, wider and more spacious than the previous model. VW has already unveiled the new Polo in the European markets. It continues to feature VW’s evolutionary styling with sharp body creases, large stance, chiselled sides and modish cues. The cabin of the SUV features a high placed touchscreen, virtual cockpit digital instrument display from Audi TT, etc. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic unit.
