The sub 10 lakh four-wheeler space is one of the most popular segments in India, with some of the top-selling models accounting for a huge chunk of sales. In other words, it could rightly be referred as the money-spinning segment with majority of volumes drawn by niche models such as Honda City, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the likes. In fact, City has been the most profitable product for the Japanese automaker in India. While we have already witnessed launch of some of the highly anticipated vehicles in the current year, there is lot more coming up in the next couple of years. New-generation Hyundai Santro

Upcoming Cars Under 10 Lakhs - New Santro

The South Korean automaker has announced that it will launch an all-new compact hatchback in the Indian market in 2018. The new model is expected to be called new Santro and it will replace the i10 hatchback. It will be slotted between Eon and Grand i10. Media reports suggest that the next Santro will be Hyundai’s first car to feature an AMT (automated manual transmission) gearbox. Codenamed AH, the new compact car will take on the likes of Tata Tiago, Maruti Celerio and Renault Kwid 1.0. It is expected to come with two petrol engine options – a 1.1-litre iRDE and a 1.2-litre Kappa. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The SUV is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018 in pre-production form.

Mahindra XUV300

Mahindra & Mahindra is working on a sub-4 meter SUV to challenge the likes of Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Codenamed S201, the compact SUV is based on the SsangYong’s Tivoli’s X100 platform. If reports are to be believed, this model could be named Mahindra XUV300; however, nothing official on the same has been revealed. Expected to make global debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo in February, this compact SUV will be launched in the second half of 2018. The SUV will also mark the debut of Mahindra’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The gasoline model will be powered by an all-new 1.2-litre turbocharged direct injection engine, which is likely to produce around 140bhp of power. Both manual and automatic versions of the SUV will be on offer. This model will be one of the most awaited upcoming cars under 10 lakhs in India.

New Maruti Swift

The next upcoming car under 10 lakhs price band is Maruti’s flagship hatchback Swift. Both Swift & its sedan twin, Dzire were expected to be launched this year, however for the first time, Maruti rolled-out Dzire before the hatchback earlier in May this year. As for the new Swift, it will now break cover at the 2018 Auto Expo, set to begin from February 9, 2018. Sporting radical changes, Swift will resemble the new Dzire aesthetically and will receive prominent styling updates on the inside along with a host of new tech. Though, mechanically it will remain unchanged with the same 1.2-litre petrol & 1.3-litre oil burner, powering the carline, there could additionally be a CVT option along with the standard five-speed manual gearbox.
