Upcoming New Cars in India Under Rs 20 Lakh

Thanks to the rising economy and increasing buying power, car buyers in India are now ready to shed extra to drive home bigger, better equipped and more premium cars. This shift has forced automakers to introduce their global products as well as local development of more premium cars, which were earlier not suitable for the Indian market. Seeing surge in demand for such vehicles, India is set to get a slew of cars priced under Rs 20 lakh. If you are planning to upgrade to a new car, wait for these upcoming cars under 20 lakhs that will be launched in India in the next one year.

Upcoming Cars Under 20 Lakhs

1. Tata Curvv SUV Coupe

The first model in our list of upcoming cars under 20 lakhs is the Tata Curvv SUV Coupe, which will be offered with both ICE and EV powertrains. The company will first launch the electric version by mid-2024, while the ICE version is scheduled to be launched by festive season before Diwali. The electric SUV will be designed and developed on Tata’s new Acti.ev platform, which is designed to optimize space and energy consumption. The EV is likely to have a bigger battery pack compared to the Nexon EV. It is expected to return a range of up to 500km in a single charge.

The Tata Curvv EV measures 4308mm in length, 1801mm in width and 1630mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2560mm. It has a boot space of 422-litres. The ICE version will be offered with two powertrain options – a 125PS, 1.2L turbo petrol and a 115PS, 1.5L turbo diesel. The electric SUV will come with a host of advanced features including ADAS tech, a 360-degree camera, a large touchscreen infotainment unit, a new twin-spoke steering wheel, and a redesigned central tunnel with rotary dials. 2. Tata Altroz EV

Tata Motors had showcased the Altroz EV concept at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The company has confirmed that the production-ready model will be launched sometime in 2025. The electric hatchback is likely to receive modern design elements with resemblance with its new-breed of electric SUVs. It will feature a closed-off grille complemented by integrated DRLs, a front air dam adorned with star patterns, new alloys, and revised tailgate design.

The electric hatchback will come with a significantly revised interior with more premium features. It is likely to get a bigger infotainment unit, digital instrument console, cruise control, rear camera display, ambient lighting and others. 3. New Renault Duster

French automaker, Renault has confirmed that the new gen Duster SUV will be launched sometime in 2025. The third-gen Renault Duster has recently been introduced in Europe under the Dacia nameplate. It will be based on the heavily localised CMF-B modular platform, which will also underpin a new 7-seater SUV to rival the Safari and XUV700. The SUV retains the original silhouette; however, it receives several modern styling elements. The new-gen Duster will come with an all-new feature-loaded interior, featuring a large freestanding touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument console, Cruise control, automatic AC, electric parking brake, wireless smartphone charger and others.

The new Duster also has an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with features like automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and driver attention alert. It will be offered with strong hybrid and mild hybrid engines. It comes with a 94bhp, 1.6L petrol engine with two electric motors (49bhp drive motor) and an electric automatic gearbox. It is packed with a 1.2kWh battery pack, which also supports Regenerative Braking System. The SUV can drive in all-electric mode up to 80% of the time in Cities. The SUV will also receive a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid motor. This engine is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox with 4×2 and 4×4 versions. 4. Nissan’s Mid-Sized SUV

Similar to the older Duster and Terrano/Kicks, Nissan will introduce an all-new mid-sized SUV based on the third-gen Duster. Likely to be launched in the late 2025, the new Nissan SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate and others. The SUV will share the interior features with the Duster sibling. Not just platform, the new Nissan SUV is expected to share the engine options with the Duster.

5. Maruti 7-Seater SUV

The next model in our list of upcoming cars under 20 lakhs is the new 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara. Internally codenamed Y17, the new Maruti 7-seater SUV will be the first vehicle to be produced at Maruti Suzuki’s new Kharkhoda-based facility. The SUV will be based on Suzuki’s global C architecture, which also underpins the Grand Vitara and the Brezza. It is likely to be offered with the 1.5L K15C petrol mild-hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid powertrain options. 6. Mahindra Thar 5-door

The homegrown automaker, Mahindra will introduce a new 5-door version of the Thar lifestyle SUV in our market in 2024. To be based on a longer wheelbase, the new Mahindra Thar 5-door model won’t have direct competition. However, Force Motors is also developing a new 5-door Gurkha that has been spotted multiple times. It will be based on the stiffer platform and will feature penta-link suspension. It will ride on a longer wheelbase, which will allow Mahindra to create more space inside the cabin. The new Thar 5-door will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. Both engines will be tuned for higher power and torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

7. New-gen Honda Amaze

Japanese automaker, Honda will introduce the new generation Amaze sub-4 meter sedan in the country in the second half of 2024. The new model will be based on the new City’s platform, which also underpin the Elevate mid-sized SUV. It will continue to have stylish design cues, which will be inspired from the bigger Honda sedans including the new Accord on sale in international markets. The cabin of the new Amaze is likely to share the layout and features from the Elevate mid-sized SUV. It is expected to feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, Honda Sensing Suite – an advanced driver assistance system and others. 8. Kia Clavis

The Korean automaker, Kia will introduce an all-new compact SUV in the country in early 2025. Rumoured to be called the Kia Clavis, the new SUV will be equal or slightly longer than the Sonet. To be positioned between Sonet and Seltos, the new Kia Clavis will be branded as a lifestyle SUV and will target a different set of buyers. The new Kia Clavis will be a tall and upright SUV with boxy styling elements and high ground clearance. The SUV will share the cabin layout with modern Kia cars. It is expected to be equipped with features such as a larger touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument console, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 360 degree camera and automatic AC.

The Kia Clavis will come with ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, auto high beam and others. It will be offered with both petrol and electric powertrains. The small SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.2L NA petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engines. 9. Jeep mid-sized SUV

The American SUV maker is reportedly working on an all-new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. The new model will be introduced as a lifestyle SUV, which will come with off-road credentials. It could be the Jeep Avenger, which is on sale in select international markets. However, few reports claim that Jeep could use Citroen’s CMP platform to develop the new mid-sized SUV. 10. Skoda Sub-4 meter SUV

Czech automaker, Skoda has confirmed that its new sub-4 meter SUV will be launched in the Indian market in early 2025. It will directly rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and the Mahindra XUV300. The compact SUV will be based on the modified version of the MQB AO IN platform that underpins the Skoda Kushaq and the Slavia. Not just platform, the new SUV will share several body panels, components and engine specifications with the Kushaq mid-sized SUV.
