Upcoming Cars Under 20 Lakh

India witnessed a paradigm shift with customers opting for bigger, better equipped and more premium cars. This encouraged car giants to introduce popular models from their global line-up which were otherwise not suitable for the Indian market. Seeing surge in demand for such vehicles, India is set to get a slew of cars priced under Rs 20 lakh. If you are planning to upgrade to a new car, wait for these upcoming cars that will be priced under Rs 20 lakh.

1. Hyundai Creta Facelift

Hyundai’s premium SUV, Santa Fe might have had a dull run in India, albeit its compact model Creta is a volume churner.  First launched in 2015, Creta will receive a mid-life facelift during second-half of 2018. Cosmetic changes to the exterior are expected to be inspired by ix25 facelift, which was launched in the Chinese market last year. While it will get new elements for enhanced visual appeal, the SUV is likely to remain unchanged under the hood. That said, the Creta facelift will continue deriving power from the 1.4LCRDi, 1.6L CRDi and 1.6L Petrol unit. The six-speed manual and automatic gearbox will also be retained.

Expected Launch – Second half, 2018

Expected Price – Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh

2. Toyota Yaris Sedan

Japanese automaker had showcased the Yaris mid-sized sedan at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. To be slotted between Etios sedan and Corolla Altis, the new Yaris will take on the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Already on sale in select ASIAN markets, the new Yaris sedan is heavily inspired by the popular Toyota Corolla Altis. Toyota has already confirmed that the bookings for the new mid-sized sedan will be commenced in April 2018. Though exact launch date of the car is yet to be announced, it is expected that the vehicle will be launched in the same month as well.

If reports are to be believed, Toyota will launch the Yaris sedan with petrol engine only. It is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 105bhp of maximum power and 140Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed CVT automatic unit.

Talking about design highlights, the new Yaris has sharp-looking projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, large radiator grille with horizontal slats, sculpted bonnet, large air-dam with new fog lamp assembly, chrome finished door handles and ORVMs, sharp wraparound tail-lights and a chunky bumper. The flared wheel arches have been fitted to 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the Yaris sedan gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth phone integration, MirrorLink, HDMI, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Talking about features, the sedan gets leather door trim, optitron instrument panel with 4.2-inch MID, leather seats, segment-first 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, rear view camera and engine start/stop system.

Expected Launch – April/May 2018

Expected Price – Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh

3. Volkswagen Virtus

Volkswagen Virtus India Rear

Another mid-size sedan that joins the above-mentioned upcoming cars under Rs 20 lakh is Virtus. The model underpins VW’s MQB-AO platform used in the new-gen Polo. According to reports, it will replace the ageing Vento in several markets and is likely to be heavily inspired by Polo in terms of styling. Besides, it will share engine set with the new-gen Polo and is likely to be larger than the Vento. Equipment level will be on par with other models in the segment. In India, the model will rival Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz.

Expected Launch – 2019-2020

Expected Price – Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh
