After overtaking China, India emerged as the world’s largest two-wheeler market in 2017. According to SIAM’s (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) data, the Indian two-wheeler industry recorded sales of 20,192,672 units in FY2018. It’s the first time the industry crossed the 20 million sales milestone. Over 73,000 units of two-wheelers are sold every day (in May, 2018) with most of the sales coming from the commuters. The commuters come with low pricing, low maintenance and impressive fuel economy, which are the main reasons behind their high sales. Besides, the scooter segment also raised from ashes courtesy the contemporary looking gearless scooters. That said the new-age scooters acted as an impetus in the growth of scooter segment in India. With these vehicles conquering the two-wheeler market, the demand for lucrative vehicles is rising constantly. For those looking for a feasible two-wheeler within Rs 1 lakh, here’s a complete list of the upcoming bikes and scooters under Rs 1 lakh in 2018 and 2019.

Upcoming Bikes Under Rs 1 Lakh

1. Hero XPulse

2018 Hero XPulse 200 India

The first one in our list of upcoming bikes under Rs 1 lakh is the Hero XPulse adventure bike, which is ready to see a releasing in coming months. The concept version of the bike was first previewed at the 2017 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, followed by its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. Hero’s all-new adventure bike will be propelled by a new 200cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that will be good enough for 20bhp.

The XPulse will be a lightweight adventure bike with a kerb weight of just 140kg. The bike gets some off-road specs features such as bigger wind protector, off-road tyres, high ground clearance and a long travel conventional fork. In India, the XPulse will be stacked up against the Royal Enfield Himalayan. It will be India’s most affordable upcoming adventure bike.

2. Bajaj Pulsar 125

New Bajaj Pulsar Range

The new-generation Bajaj Pulsar range is under development and it will include a 250cc and a 125cc model. Both the new Bajaj Pulsar 125 and Pulsar 250 are reported to hit showrooms sometime next year. Rumor has it that the new-gen Pulsar 125 will come as a replacement to the Pulsar 135 LS. The updated version of the bike will meet the new safety norms that will be enforced on all two-wheelers with 125cc or above engine capacity.

For power, the commuter is likely to use a 124.6cc, single-cylinder engine that will deliver power worth 11bhp against 11Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a 5-speed gearbox unit. In the 125cc bike segment, the new Bajaj Pulsar 125 will take head-to-head against the Honda CB Shine SP and Hero Glamour.

3. Suzuki Gixxer Range

Suzuki Motorcycle will give a generation change to its highly popular Gixxer range in the Indian market. The updated model is reported to go on sale sometime next year. The new-generation Suzuki Gixxer, one of the much-awaited upcoming bikes under Rs 1 lakh, will witness comprehensive design and feature upgrades.

While the details are scanty, it is likely to get a new all-digital instrument console, LED headlamp, split seat and Suzuki’s Easy Start System. Engine mechanism of the bike might remain unchanged. Though, it might have better refinement levels. Currently, the Suzuki Gixxer comes with a 155cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with both carbureted and fuel injection technology. With a 5-speed gearbox, it delivers 14.6bhp with 14Nm of torque.

5. Hero Duet 125 & Maestro 125

Hero Maestro Edge 125 Scooter

The home-grown two-wheeler maker, Hero MotoCorp showcased its two 125cc scooters – Duet and Maestro – at the Auto Expo 2018. Both the models will take on the Honda Activa, Honda Grazia and Suzuki Access 125. Power for the vehicles comes from a 125cc, single-energy cylinder Boost engine pushing out a maximum power of 8.7bhp and 10.2Nm of torque. The Duet and Maestro are the first scooters in their segments to get i3S (idle-start-stop-system) technology. The Maestro Edge 125 features an LED taillight, service indicators, digital analogue instrumentation and optional front disc brake.

6. Yamaha Aerox 155

Considering the growing demand of the urban scooters, Yamaha is planning to bring in the all-new Aerox 155. Already on sale in Malaysia, the Yamaha Aerox 155 comes equipped with a 155cc, single-cylinder engine supported by the five-speed manual gearbox. This liquid-cooled motor is benefited with Yamaha’s Blue Core technology. It delivers 14.8bhp and 14.4Nm of torque. Some of its highlights include dual LED headlamp, wide tubeless tyres, seat and fuel lid buttons, electric socket, 5.8-inch LCD digital meter panel, big storage capacity, etc.

7. Aprilia Storm 125

Making inroads into the Indian market lately, the company is now planning to expand its SR range by adding new variants to the line-up. Called the Aprilia Storm 125, the scooter is aimed at young urban buyers. In terms of looks, the upcoming scooter under Rs 1 lakh borrows most of the cues from its sibling, SR125. Some of its key features include 12-inch wheels with Vee Rubber-branded off-road tyres, a large windscreen, etc. Previewed at the 2018 Auto Expo, the Storm 125 derives its power from a 125cc unit that’s good for 10.5bhp and 9.9Nm of torque, while the transmission duties will be handled by a CVT.

8. Honda PCX 125

2018 Honda PCX 125 Details

The long awaited Honda PCX 125 is the next and most exciting model in the list of upcoming scooters in India under Rs 1 lakh. As a reminder, Honda has showcased the PCX 125 scooter at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Sporting features such as the enhanced Smart Power, theft proof system and smart navigation, the scooter seems to be a promising product.

For power, the scooter uses 124.9cc, 4-stroke 2-valve SOHC engine that delivers 11.17bhp at 8,000rpm and 11.56Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. This liquid cooling motor, paired to an automatic gearbox, delivers a top speed of 96kmph. Suspension mechanism includes 31mm telescopic fork and twin suspension aluminium swingarm. Power for the scooter comes from 220mm hydraulic disc front and 130mm combined leading/trailing drum rear brakes.

9. Hero Zir 150

Hero Zir is among the highly anticipated upcoming scooters in India under Rs 1 lakh. The sporty model was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi and is likely to be launched in two variants-a ‘European Style’ step-through and the flat floorboard. For power generation, it will use a 157cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine good for maximum power of 13.9bhp and 12.7Nm of torque. On the feature front, expect the scooter to get dual projector lamps with DRLs, European-styled seat and LED winkers and tail-lamps. In addition, it will also get flower type disc plates, integrated pillion handle, a digital analog console and an array of connectivity features.

11. New Bajaj Chetak

Bajaj is thinking to resurrect its Chetak brand. The patented images of the scooter were leaked online few months ago, hinting at the re-launch of the iconic brand. It is expected that Chetak will sport a contemporary design and will be a part of the premium scooter range, albeit it will retain its retro-styling. Interestingly, the new Chetak will be a unisex model for people across age groups. In tandem with other gearless scooters, Chetak will also get a CVT, while power will reportedly come from the 125cc, single cylinder, air-cooled engine with Bajaj’s DTS-I technology. In terms of power, expect the engine to make 9 to 10bhp with 9Nm of torque.
