Upcoming 9-Seater Mahindra, 7-Seater Maruti SUVs – Details

The three-row vehicles are quite popular among Indian buyers. In order to tap the family car market, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki have planned three-row versions of the Bolero Neo and Grand Vitara SUVs respectively. Called the Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus, the model is currently in its final testing phase and it’s expected to go on sale in coming months. The Indo-Japanese automaker, on the other hand, will introduce a 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara in 2024 or 2025. Here’re some key details of the aforementioned models.

The 7-seater Bolero Neo will come in three variants – P4, P10 and P10 (R) – powered by a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine. The oil burner delivers a peak power of 94bhp in Economy model and 120bhp in Power mode. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual unit. The SUV will be made available in 7 and 9-seats configurations featuring bench type seat and jump seats in the third row respectively. The model lineup will also have an ambulance version with 4-seats and a patient bed. Compared to the Bolero Neo, the new Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus will be priced around Rs 1 lakh premium. Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on a 7-seater SUV that will be based on the Grand Vitara. Codenamed Maruti Y17, the model is expected to be offered with the 1.5L K15C petrol with mild hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid powertrain options. While the former is good for 103bhp, the latter delivers 115bhp. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. Besides engines, the new Maruti 7-seater SUV will share its platform, features and design elements with its 5-seater sibling. Though, it will have an extra row of seat. Maruti Suzuki’s new Kharkhoda based facility will serve as production hub for the new three-row SUV. More details here…
