UM Renegade Commando 2017 features a conventional cruiser styling with high and wide handlebars, low seats, raked out front forks and stylish fuel tank.

With the government ban on the sales and registration of BS III vehicles, American two-wheeler maker UM Motorcycle has launched fuel injected version of the Renegade series in the Indian market. As a reminder, the UM Renegade Commando cruiser was launched in India at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo alongside the Renegade Sport S and Classic. The engine specifications of the 2017 UM Renegade Commando remain the same. UM claims that the new model comes with improved throttle response and it can be tuned according to the customer need. Adding to it, the bike comes with better cold starts, thanks to FI engines with cleaner emissions.

The 2017 Commando comes at a price of Rs 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is powered by a 279.5cc single-cylinder engine featuring liquid-cooled tech. This engine churns out 24.6bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 21.8Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. For people not in the know, the American bikemaker had signed a 50-50% partnership under a strategic collaboration with the home-grown electric two-wheel maker – Lohia Auto – and named the brand UML.

Equipped with BSIV engine with FI system, the 2017 Commando is priced slightly higher than the BS3 model. First launched at Rs 1.57 lakh, the new 2017 model is now available at Rs 1.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

This low-slung cruiser looks quite rugged and sporty. The bike features a conventional cruiser styling with elements like low seats, high and wide handlebars, raked out front forks and stylish fuel tank. It comes equipped with a single-pod instrument console and traditional round-shaped headlamps that gives it a cruiser style. Some interesting features include floorboards for the rider, bling spot mirrors and USB charging point.

The braking system comprises of 280mm, 2-piston caliper disc at the front and drum brake at the rear. Suspension mechanism of the bike includes hydraulic telescopic 41mm and twin hydraulic with spring rear suspension at the front and rear, respectively. It is assembled with the 110/90- 16 front and 140/90 – 15 rear tyres. Dimensionally, the 2017 Renegade Commando is 2,257mm, 820mm and 1,140mm in length, width and height, respectively. It has a seat height of 750mm, which is good for normal height riders. The bike carries a kerb weight of 172kgs. The wheelbase and ground clearance of the bike stand at 1,545mm and 150mm respectively. It offers a fuel tank capacity of 18-litres.
