UM Motorcycles Announces GST Benefits On Its Renegade Series

The UM Renegade Commando and Renegade Sport S receive price cut of Rs 5,684 and Rs 4,199 respectively.

The American bike manufacturer, UM Motorcycles has announced that it will pass on GST (Goods and Service Tax) benefits to customers with immediate effect. With this move, the company’s two offerings – UM Renegade Commando and UM Renegade Sport S now get Rs 5,684 and Rs 4,199 more affordable than before, respectively. Currently, the former is priced at Rs 1.78 lakh and the latter one comes with a price tag of Rs 1.84 lakh (all, ex-showroom, Pune).

Commenting on the same, Rajeev Mishra, UML’s CEO said, “We have decided to preemptively extend benefits before the GST is implemented. The new GST norms will come into effect from 1st July 2017. It’s need to be noted that the GST benefits will vary model and state-wise. Under this new system, the tax rate on the two-wheelers will be 28% which is currently around 30%. On the contrary, the motorcycles with over 350cc engine capacity will attract an additional 3% cess.

Both the UM Renegade motorcycles are, currently, retailed via 44 dealerships in India. The company is also planning to setup a new production plant near Hyderabad with a capacity of 100,000 units. This will help the bikemaker curb costs by up to 18%. Currently, production of both the bikes take place at UM-Lohia’s Uttarakhand based manufacturing facility. Powering the Renegade series is a 279cc water cooled, single cylinder engine making a top power 25bhp at 8,500rpm and 21.8Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. The American bikemaker is also working on a 400 cc V-twin motor that will debut on an adventure-oriented motorcycle.
