Automakers in India are adopting new strategy to reduce the losses due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the automakers have started their manufacturing facilties and resumed operations at their dealer networks with new safety guidlines. In the middle of this crisis, TVS Motor Company acquired the British Motorcycle manufacturer – Norton Motorcycles for Rs 153 crore.
We reported earlier that TVS Motor Company is developing a wide range of new motorcycles and scooters for the domestic market. It is expected that the company will launch an all-new motorcycle based on the Apache RR 310 platform that also underpins the BMW Motorrad’s G 310 range. The new motorcycle could be the naked version of the RR 310, which will directly rival the Bajaj Dominar 400. Moreover, the automaker is also developing an all-new cruiser motorcycle. The new cruiser could be the production version of the Zeppelin concept, which was unveiled at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo.
The homegrown two-wheeler maker has registered a new product name, TVS Ronin. The word ‘Ronin’ originates from Japanese and it refers to a samurai from the feudal period of 1185-1868, with no lord or master. This could be the move to introduce an all-new product with some interesting name. The company has a history of giving unique names to its motorcycles and scooters, and the Ronin could also be the name for the new scooter.
Talking about the naked version of the TVS Apache RR 310, the new motorcycle will have similarities with the fully-faired motorcycle in terms of features and some design elements. We believe that the new motorcycle will be the part of Apache family. It will be receive the BSVI compliant 312.2cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 33.5bhp of power at 9,500rpm and 27.3Nm of torque at 7,700rpm. This engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.
TVS Ronin could also be the production version of the Zeppelin concept, which previews the brand’s future cruiser motorcycles. The motorcycle will be introduced as a sports cruiser and will be more powerful and premium than the Avenger 220. It will be powered by a 212cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. This powertrain is based on the Apache’s 197cc engine. The BSVI compliant unit will have increased bore size for higher displacement. It is likely to produce around 20bhp of power and close to 25Nm of torque.
