TVS Motor Company will soon introduce TVS IQube hybrid scooter in India that will cater to a niche segment. Based on the Qube concept which was showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, the TVS IQube will be India’s first ever hybrid scooter. Since this hybrid scooter will come under the government’s FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India) scheme, it will avail excise duty benefits.
The new TVS hybrid scooter might launch in the country anytime soon. Though, the two-wheeler maker hasn’t yet confirmed launch details of the vehicle. India’s first hybrid scooter – TVS IQube Hybrid – will be a beneficiary of the incentives offered on electric and hybrid vehicles by govt.’s FAME India scheme.
|Engine||100cc petrol + Electric motor|
|Driving Modes||Hybrid Economy & Hybrid Power|
|Expected Mileage||70kmpl (approx.)|
Coming to the engine, the TVS IQube hybrid scooter will be powered by a 100cc, 4-stroke petrol engine coupled to an electric motor with a lithium ion batteries pack. This hybrid power system with regenerative brakes produces electrical energy routed towards the lithium batteries to recharge them and run the motor. Transmission on offer will be 4-speed gearbox. Running only on the electric motor, with zero fuel consumption and emissions, the scooter can be used for short city rides.
The scooter also offers multiple driving modes – Hybrid Economy and Hybrid Power – that enable rider to select the apt mode to control the vehicle. In Power mode, this hybrid system delivers highest power output and acceleration, and better performance. On the other hand, the Economy mode saves energy and enhances engine’s efficiency, while reducing carbon emission. This powertrain will meet the existing BSIV norms.
In terms of design, the TVS IQube will share resemblance with the Qube concept. The production version of the scooter is likely to feature an analogue speedometer and fuel gauge, LED display, LED light, pillion footrest, electric start system, pass light and a single seat.
