Toyota’s Mahindra XUV700 Rival SUV – What We Know So Far

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is reportedly considering a new SUV that will be based on the Corolla Cross. Though, it will be longer than its donor sibling and come with 7-seats configuration. In terms of pricing and positioning, the Toyota’s new SUV will take on cars like Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Tucson and Alcazar and Jeep Meridian. The model will underpin modular TNGA-C platform that supports FWD and AWD systems and it’s paired with a transverse engine.

The carmaker uses its TNGA-C architecture for unibody vehicles in the C-segment or compact car, crossover SUVs and mid-size MPVs. It’s the same platform that’s used in the new Toyota Innova Hycross. Besides platform, the new Toyota 7-seater SUV will share its features and powertrains with the three-row MPV. It will come with an electrically operated tailgate and have flat foldable seats.

In order to make ingress/egress easier for the third row seat passengers, the carmaker will equip longer rear doors than the Corolla Cross and make some changes to its C and D pillars. Toyota’s Mahindra XUV700 rival SUV will feature a newly-designed grille, headlamps and bumper at the front.

The Toyota Corolla Cross 7-seater SUV could be offered with the Innova Hycross’ 2.0L, 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle and 2.0L petrol engine options. The former makes a combined power of 184bhp with an e-Drive transmission, while the latter delivers power worth 172bhp and 205Nm of torque with a CVT gearbox. Both can be had with FWD (front-wheel drive) system. The strong hybrid version delivers a fuel efficiency of 23.24kmpl and the naturally aspirated petrol model promises 16.31kmpl.
