The Indian arm of Toyota Motor Corporation has announced prices of its new mid-size premium sedan – the Yaris. Buyers can pre-book the car by paying an initial sum of Rs 50,000. Though, the deliveries of the Yaris will begin in May, 2018.
Available in four trims, the Toyota Yaris will be available at an introductory price of Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom, India). At this price point, this new sedan will give a tough fight to the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Here’re five things you should need to know about the Yaris sedan.
1. Variants and Prices
Toyota’s new sedan carline is spread across four trim levels – J, G, V and VX – available with both manual and CVT gearbox options. Prices of the manual variants range from Rs 8.75 lakh to Rs 12.85 lakh, and the CVT models come in the price range of Rs 9.95 lakh to Rs 14.07 lakh. 2. Segment-first Features
The Yaris comes with a host of several segment-first features including gesture sensing touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 60:40 rear seat split, adjustable three-neck restraints for the rear seat and ambient lighting. It’s also the first car in its segment to offer seven airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag) as standard, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a front parking sensors.
3. Efficient Petrol Engine
Toyota’s new sedan is available with petrol engine only. The car sources its power from a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder gasoline motor that makes 108bhp with 140Nm of torque. Transmission options on offer include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic with 7 stepped shifts and paddle shifters. 4. Dimensions
Measuring 4,425mm in length, the Yaris is shorter than its arch rivals – City (4,440mm) and Ciaz (4,490mm). In fact, its wheelbase is around 50mm and 100mm shorter than the City (2,600mm) and Ciaz (2,650mm) respectively. Though, it has generous cabin space to offer. Its width and height stand at 1,730mm and 1,475mm respectively. The sedan comes with a ground clearance of 160mm.
5. Conventional Design
The Toyota Yaris has very conventional sedan design and styling. Some of its key elements include projector headlamps with LED DRLs and line guide, large radiator grille, 16-inch alloys, chrome finished ORVMs and door handles and line guide in taillamps. The sedan has piano black interior with waterfall design instrumental panel.
