Toyota Yaris Cross Compact SUV Revealed; To Rival Nissan Juke

Japanese automaker, Toyota has revealed its smallest SUV for the European markets, called the new Yaris Cross. The Toyota Yaris Cross is based on the new-gen Yaris hatchback, which is currently on sale in the European nations. The SUV was scheduled to be unveiled at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, which was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic. Toyota claims that the new Yaris Cross has been designed and developed keeping European customers in mind.

The Toyota Yaris Cross SUV is positioned below the C-HR crossover. It will directly rival the likes of the Renault Captur and the Nissan Juke or Kicks. In terms of proportions, the new compact SUV measures 4,180mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,560mm. Compared to the hatchback, the new Cross is 240mm longer, 20mm wider and 90mm taller. Yaris Cross Details

Talking about the styling, the new Toyota Yaris Cross features the signature Toyota styling elements. Some of the design highlights and features are shared with the C-HR and the new-gen Toyota Harrier. The SUV rides on 18-inch alloys. It comes with shiny new paint scheme called the Brass Gold, while the optional electric tailgate will make loading and unloading of luggage easier. The new SUV has high ground clearance and chunky wheel arches that give it a rugged feel.

The cabin of the new Toyota Yaris Cross is shared with the Yaris premium hatchback. The central console is dominated by a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity options. It also gets ambient lighting and split-folding rear seats.

Toyota Yaris Cross Interior

The Toyota Yaris Cross SUV is available in a single hybrid engine that comprises of a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine coupled to an electric motor. This engine is claimed to have a thermal efficiency of up to 40 percent and can power the vehicle alone in front-wheel-drive mode. Once the sensors detect poor grip conditions, the AWD system kicks in and helps the driver tackle the rain, snow, or even sand. The total output of the hybrid stands at 116bhp.
