We reported earlier that Toyota is planning to launch the Vios sedan in the Indian car market; however, the Japanese automaker is yet to announce the same. Surprisingly, the 3rd generation Vios sedan has been spotted testing in Bangalore, Karnataka. It is yet to be known whether the spotted vehicle arrives for research & development purpose or the company is serious about launching this product in our market.
The Toyota Vios sedan will be positioned between the Etios sedan and the Corolla Altis. Based on the Yaris hatchback, the Vios saloon will rival against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Dimensionally, the Vios sedan is 4410mm long, 1700mm wide and 1475mm high, and it has a large wheelbase of 2550mm. Internationally, the Vios comes with a low ground clearance of 147mm, but the Indian model is expected to get around 160-165mm of ground clearance.
The Toyota Vios sedan is expected to be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol version of the sedan will get the 1.5-litre VVT-I engine that is good for 107bhp and a peak torque of 141Nm. The diesel-spec model is expected to be the 1.4-litre D4-D engine that produces 88PS. Both five-speed manual gearbox and a four-speed automatic version will be on offer.
